Welcome back to another fantasy hockey season! As usual, every week, the weekly waiver wire report will help you target some players that you should be adding, or monitoring, on the waiver wire. You can’t win a championship with the team you drafted, which means, you’ll need to be active on the waiver wire to help replace injured players, and other who are just not getting the job done. Let’s get right into it for this week.

Jakub Vrana - Washington Capitals - Winger

If you’re looking for a short-term solution, Jakub Vrana is a nice option to consider. The Washington forward has seven points (4G, 3A) in 12 games this season. It’s still early, but that puts him on pace for 47-points, which would match his career high he set last season. The 23-year-old is playing on the third line, which isn’t ideal, but there is a chance that he finds his way into the top six, which would be a nice boost. Vrana has proven that he can score at this level, and considering he’s only owned in 15% of Yahoo! leagues, he’s a low risk/high reward pick up.

Ilya Mikheyev - Toronto Maple Leafs - Winger

After spending the last four seasons in the KHL, Ilya Mikheyev is ready to show everyone that he can play in the NHL. the 25-year-old is slowly moving his way up the depth charts. He is seeing regular minutes on the second line with Kerfoot and Marner, while not seeing any time on the power play. That doe limit his upside, but if he continues his strong play, he may force Mike Babcock to change that. Zach Hyman is close to returning to the lineup, so Mikheyve is purely a short-term solution until we see how things play out.

Ryan Suter - Minnesota Wild - Defence

Didn’t think we’d be talking about adding Ryan Suter off the waiver wire, but here we are. The veteran defenceman has only five points (1G, 4A) in ten games, which isn’t terrible, but it’s not good enough for a player of his caliber. He’s also playing just under 25 minutes per game, which is new territory for the workhorse blueliner. Matt Dumba is slowly starting to see more minutes and more power play time, which is affecting Suter’s totals, but the 34-year-old can still produce points. He’s put up over 40-points in the last four seasons, and there’s no reason that he can’t do it this season. Minnesota is off to a terrible start, but they certainly won’t play this bad all season long. If you see Suter on the waiver wire, take a risk on him and add him.

Cam Fowler - Anaheim Ducks - Defence

The Anaheim Ducks have gotten off to a surprisingly good start to the season, and so has Cam Fowler. The Ducks’ defenceman has five points (2G, 3A) in 11 games so far this season and is seeing just over 20 minutes per game. Anaheim is ranked 29th on the power play so far this season, which is what might be hurting Fowler’s fantasy value. If they can keep up this strong pay, maybe their power play can turn things around, which would mean more points for Fowler. At 20% owned, there’s no reason to not add him if you need help on the blue line.

Aaron Dell - San Jose Sharks - Goalie

We might be witnessing Aaron Dell taking over for Martin Jones as the starting goalie in San Jose. The 30-year-old started in Montreal on Thursday, and Friday in Toronto. It’s rare to see goalies start back-to-back games, yet Dell did just that. Despite his team losing to the Leafs, he had himself a pretty decent game. His 3.03 GAA isn’t great, but his .906 SV% is respectable, and that’s what the Sharks need right now-- some respectable numbers. He’s only 3% owned in Yahoo! leagues, so if you need to add a goalie, Dell is the least worst option.
