Welcome back to another fantasy hockey season! As usual, every week, the weekly waiver wire report will help you target some players that you should be adding, or monitoring, on the waiver wire. You can’t win a championship with the team you drafted, which means, you’ll need to be active on the waiver wire to help replace injured players, and other who are just not getting the job done. Let’s get right into it for this week.

Jared McCann - Pittsburgh Penguins - Center

With the news that Sidney Crosby is going to be out for six weeks due to a sports hernia, Jared McCann has a golden opportunity to step up and rack up a bunch of points. The 23-year-old is bouncing between the second and third line, but at some point, he’s going to find a home on the second line and on the top power play unit. He has 11 points ( 6G, 5A) in 17 games, and he’s only 24% owned on Yahoo!. If you need a centerman, McCann is your best bet.

Zach Hyman - Toronto Maple Leafs - Winger

Welcome back to the lineup, Zach Hyman! After missing the beginning of the season due to injury, the 27-year-old is ready to get back into the action and help a struggling Toronto team that has been unable to score at five-on-five. Hyman is coming off a 20-goal season, and despite missing an entire month, he could repeat that total again this season. His ownership should be relatively low across both platforms, so you should have no problem adding him to your lineup.

Phillip Danault - Montreal Canadiens - Center

I’ll be honest for a moment-- I wasn’t really high on Danault coming into the season. I thought he was a little overrated and that regression was going to hit him hard. 19 games into the season, and he’s proven me wrong. The 26-year-old has 14 points ( 6G, 8A) in 19 games. He had a total of 12 goals last season, so he’s on pace to surpass that total by a mile. It’s crazy that a player that could finish with 60-points this season and is only 10% owned on Yahoo!. Danault isn’t just a depth option player, he’s a player that can have a permanent home on your roster and contribute on a regular basis.

Sean Walker - Los Angeles Kings - Defence

Here is an option for fantasy owners in deeper leagues. Sean Walker came into this season as an unknown, but he’s collected nine points ( 4G, 5A) in 19 games and is a plus-6. The Kings are a rebuilding team, so they are going to give their younger players a chance to showcase their skills, and Walker is one of those players. He’s not a player that’s going to win you a championship, but he certainly won’t hurt your chances. If you need a defenceman for a couple of weeks, the 25-year-old is the way to go.

Adam Werner - Colorado Avalanche - Goalie

I’m not a fan of Adam Wener, but I do understand that someone has to play in goal and there’s a good chance that it’s him. Werner was solid in his relief appearance against Winnipeg-- stopping all 40 shots he faced-- but was a hot mess against Edmonton. To be fair, McDavid and Draisaitl make a lot of goalies look really bad, so we won’t blame the rookie goalie too much for his poor performance. Pavel Francouz is still in concussion protocol, we have no idea when Grubauer will be ready to return. Throw in the fact that Antoine Bibeau hasn’t started an NHL game since 2016-17, Werner is going to run with this until one of Colorado’s top two goalies is ready to go. He’s a risky option, but for fantasy owners who need a goalie badly, he’s the best option available.
