Welcome to the fantasy hockey waiver wire report! As usual, every week, the weekly waiver wire report will help you target some players that you should be adding, or monitoring, on the waiver wire. You’ll want to check back through the week to see if players are added. The fantasy hockey season is a long one, but staying on top of the waiver wire will most certainly help keep your team competitive. Let’s see who we should be targeting this week.
Victor Rask - Minnesota Wild - Center
Over the past week, Victor Rask has gone from being forgettable in fantasy hockey, to a solid value add. Since February 20th, Rask has six points, and is a plus-6. Minnesota’s entire second line has been great, but for whatever reason, Rask is only 3% owned on Yahoo!. If you need a depth add, he is the best option to consider.
Pavel Zacha - New Jersey Devils - Winger/Center
Over the last eight games, Pavel Zacha has ten points, including four goals. The former first round pick has been really good, and we can’t explain why. He is shooting a crazy 18% on the season, so we shouldn’t expect this success to last for the remainder of the year. He’s still very much available on both sites, so if you need a player with duo eligibility, Zacha is the way to go.
Alex Iafallo - Los Angeles Kings - Winger
The Los Angeles Kings are one of the better offensive teams in the league, which is not something I thought we would be saying in 2021. Alex Iafallo has 13-points in 20-games this season, and is seeing regular time on the top line with Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown. If you need some depth up front in 12-team leagues, Iafallo is one of my favourite options. He’s still very much available and deserves to be on a fantasy hockey team.
Jake Allen - Montreal Canadiens - Goalie
He’s probably not available in deeper formats, but in shallow leagues, Jake Allen deserves to be on a team. He’s 43% owned on Yahoo!, which is way too low for a goalie who will most likely be seeing more playing time as the season moves on. With Carey Price struggling, Allen has stepped up and kept the Canadiens a float, and he deserves more starts if the Habs want to keep up in the playoff race. Again, in deeper leagues, he’s owned, but there’s no reason we should see his ownership below 50%.
Cam Fowler - Anaheim Ducks - Defence
We don’t think of the Anaheim Ducks very much, and for good reason, but Cam Fowler is secretly having himself a pretty good start to the season. He’s seeing time on the top power play unit and has ten points in 21-games. That isn’t anything special, but he’s been seeing over 25-minutes of ice time per game over the last three games, and we know that volume is key in fantasy hockey. The Ducks are averaging less than two goals per game, and their power play is near the bottom of the league, but Fowler is very much available and should be a serviceable bench player in deeper formats.
