Welcome to the fantasy hockey waiver wire report! As usual, every week, the weekly waiver wire report will help you target some players that you should be adding, or monitoring, on the waiver wire. You’ll want to check back through the week to see if players are added. The fantasy hockey season is a long one, but staying on top of the waiver wire will most certainly help keep your team competitive. Let’s see who we should be targeting this week.

Scott Wedgewood - New Jersey Devils - Goalie

With starter Mackenzie Blackwood on the COVID-19 list, Scott Wedgewood is expected to get the majority of the starts. His first start of the season was mediocre, but he bounced back with a strong performance on Sunday, a 1-0 shutout against the Islander. With so many teams dealing with COVID, fantasy owners who need a goalie should target Wedgewood. We don’t know how long he will continue to see starts, but if he plays well, he might get a few more in the future.

Andrew Copp - Winnipeg Jets - Winger

With Patrik Laine now in Columbus, there is a spot in the top-6 that needs to be filled, and Andrew Copp is getting the first crack at securing that spot. He has five points in six games, and if he can hang on to the second line role, he could break out and have a very productive season. He’s only 4% owned in Yahoo! leagues, so if you need some depth at the forward position, he’s one player to target.

Alexander Texier - Columbus Blue Jackets - Center

With Pierre-Luc Dubois now out of Columbus, the Blue Jackets have a hole at centre that needs to be filled, and Alexander Texier could be the player to do it. He’s going to get a chance to play with some talented wingers, and if he can get them the puck, he could very well finish the season with 35-plus points. He already has five points in six games, and is seeing a healthy amount of ice time on the second power play unit. At 8% owned on Yahoo!, he’s worth a shot if you want to take the risk.

Ty Smith - New Jersey Devils - Defence

Don’t look now, but rookie defenceman Ty Smith has six points in five games-- including nine shots on goal-- in some limited ice time for the Devils. The limited ice time is a problem , but if he continues to perform this well, at some point, he is going to need to be on the ice more. His ownership is still low, so now would be a good time to pick him up off the waiver wire. It’s hard to say if this recent success will continue, but for right now, if you need help on the blue line, he’s worth adding in 12-team formats.

Puis Suter - Chicago Blackhawks - Centre

While the Chicago Blackhawks remain a terrible team, it’s time we start paying attention to whoever is centering the top line. Puis Suter has been filling that role of late, and he was rewarded with three goals against the Red Wings on Sunday. We don’t know how long that experiment is going to last, but Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat are the two superstars on the team, so we need to stream whoever is playing between them. Dylan Strome and Carl Soderberg are going to get chances to play on the top line, but for now Suter has that role, so add him while you can, and once he cools down, drop him for whoever takes his spot.
