2018 Fantasy Hockey Injury Report: November 13
Published: Nov 13, 2018
Welcome to the Fantasy Hockey Injury Report. Once a week, we’ll take a look at some injuries around the league that may affect your fantasy hockey team. Injuries will always happen and you can’t predict when, but it’s important to be ready for the aftermath and to have a plan ready. Let’s take a look and some players who are on the shelf for the upcoming week and beyond.
Jack Campbell - Los Angeles Kings - Goalie
Injury: knee, four-to-six weeks.
The Kings have now lost both their starting goalie and backup goalie to knee injuries. They will now turn to Peter Budaj to help them keep the ship afloat. It’s not an ideal situation, but that’s all they have right now. From a fantasy perspective, Budaj is not even worth your time. The Kings have been horrible since the start of the season, and Budaj in goal doesn’t make them better.
Pavel Buchnevich- New York Rangers - Winger
Injury: thumb, four-to-six weeks.
Just as Buchnevich was starting to find his grove, he breaks his thumb and is now out for at least a month. He had found a home on the Rangers’ top line the last two games and it seemed like he was ready to go on a tear. The loss of Buchnevich now leaves the Rangers with a pretty big hole on the second line. The team will find a way to replace him for the next couple of weeks, but let’s hope that he’s back soon rather than later
John Klingberg - Dallas Stars - Defence
Injury: hand, four weeks.
Just as Radulov makes his return to the lineup, Dallas loses another key member of their offence. It’s impossible to replace John Klingberg, but the Stars will find a way to do it short-term. He’s expected to miss a minimum of four weeks, so it could be longer if his hand doesn’t recover as expected. So far this season, Klingberg has recorded 13 points (5G,8A) in 16 games. For now, rookie Hiro Heiskanen will take Klingberg’s spot on the top power play unit. Let’s see how the Stars manage to survive the next couple of weeks without their elite defenseman.
Logan Couture - San Jose Sharks - Center
Injury: unspecified, day-to-day.
Logan Couture left Sunday’s game against Calgary due to injury, but no one knows what the injury is. The team should provide an update on his status Tuesday, but don’t be surprised if Couture misses more than just one game. Fantasy owners may want to take a look at maybe replacing him for the next couple of days.
Patrick Eaves - Anaheim Ducks - Winger
Injury: upper-body injury, day-to-day
I should probably dedicate an entire section to the Anaheim Ducks because this team just can’t stay healthy. Eaves isn’t a huge loss in terms of offence, but it’s still another body on the shelf. This Anaheim team has been a mess since the beginning of the season because they can’t stay healthy. For now, there’s no timetable for Eaves's return, but it looks to be just a day-to-day injury. The team should have an update on his status today.
Viktor Arvidsson - Nashville Predators - Winger
Injury: upper-body injury, out indefinitely.
Just as Arvidsson wan making his return to the lineup after missing three games with a lower-body injury, he goes down again, this time with an upper-body injury. What’s worse is that the team has placed him on IR and there is no timetable for his return. The injury occurred during the Dallas game, when Arvidsson went crashing into the boards shoulder first. The team hasn’t given any update on his status or how long they think he will be out. At this point, it’s safe to assume that he’s out long term. Fantasy owners should look to replace him for the foreseeable future.
