Connor Bedard NHL Underdog Pick: Higher Than 2.5 Shots On Goal
It’s Opening Night for the NHL so why not get some action on one of the most talented young players in the game. Winning the Calder Trophy last season as the top rookie in the NHL, Bedard scored 22 goals and had 39 assists over 68 games played.
Now a year older and heading into his sophomore year there are many expecting Bedard to take a huge leap as he centers the Chicago Blackhawks top line and top power play unit. Bedard had 206 shots on goal last season, an average of 3.03 shots per game.
For Opening Night, we are looking at his shots projection set at 2.5 against a Utah team that last season as the Coyotes, allowed the eighth most shots per game to opponents.
Jordan Kyrou NHL Underdog Pick: Higher Than 2.5 Shots On Goal
Playing on the Blues second line, Kyrou is coming off of his second straight 30-goal season as he finished with 31 goals and 36 assists in 2023. Kyrou totaled 251 shots, an average of 3.06 shots per game last year and the season prior Kyrou averaged 3.44 shots per game, so he is an active shooter when the puck is on his stick.
We also see Kyrou on the Blues top power play unit which will provide shot opportunities here on opening night if the Blues can draw the man advantage in their matchup against the Seattle Kraken. In three games last season against the Kraken, Kyrou averaged 3.67 shots per game.
Barrett Hayton NHL Underdog Pick: Higher Than 0.5 Points
Hayton was the 5th overall pick back in the 2018 NHL Draft and at just 24 years old he enters his sixth NHL season. Last year he was limited to just 33 games, but he enters the 2024 season currently listed as the top line center and centering the top power play unit for the Utah Hockey Club.
Utah hosts the Chicago Blackhawks on opening night, and this is a Chicago team that last year allowed the third most goals per game to their opponent. With Hayton centering the top line and the top power play unit against a team expected to once again give up a lot of goals there feels like a great opportunity to jump on his 0.5 point projection.
What this means is all we need is a goal or an assist from Hayton and we will cash this pick.
- Pick: Higher than 0.5 Points
