For tonight's NHL slate we have three games on tap, which means fewer options for player props. There are plenty of different ways to approach props, but I have selected two of my favorites from the Colorado Avalanche and Calgary Flames. The season is still young so we will be relying heavily on statistics from last year combined with trends that develop this season.

NHL Underdog Fantasy Top Picks October 29

Valeri Nichushkin, Colorado Avalanche - HIGHER than 2.5 Shots

Valeri Nichushkin has gone over 2.5 shots in five of his last six games. Colorado has moved him up to the top line with Nathan MacKinnon, giving his time on ice a slight bump. Across his last two seasons, he is averaging 2.9 shots per game and went over 2.5 shots in 58% of his games last season. MacKinnon's speed and explosive skating allow him to open up more ice for Nichushkin and create more scoring chances. Buffalo allows 31 shots per game so I don't think he will have any trouble recording three shots on goal today.

MacKenzie Weegar, Calgary Flames - HIGHER than 2.5 Shots

Following Rasmus Andersson's four-game suspension, MacKenzie Weegar has been moved up to the first power play unit. He has gone over 2.5 shots in all three games without Rasmus and in four of his last five games. The Oilers are a team that commits a lot of penalties when they get frustrated and considering how their season is going, if they fall behind in this game, I can see them giving away extra power play chances to the Flames. I like Weegar for higher than 2.5 shots for as long as he is quarterbacking the top power-play unit.
