NFL DFS RB Coach Week 8: Raheem Mostert in a Smash Spot Against the Detroit Lions
We turn the NFL DFS page over to Week 8. The running back position has really come alive recently and we are back to seeing some backs completely take over games after watching the position widely flop in the first month of action. We have some heavy hitters at the top of my love list this week with Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley providing big games on a weekly basis, but I also love the matchup that Raheem Mostert has on tap. Why do I like them and who else do I like this week? Let’s dive into the top plays, values and fades for NFL DFS Week 8!

NFL DFS RB Top Plays
Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans
Henry got off to an awful start, scoring fewer than 10 fantasy points in each of the first two games, but he has been on a roll as of late (as you can see in the image below). With four straight games north of 100 rushing yards and averaging 25 carries per game in that span, there is little doubt that Henry is back is typical Henry form. Now he gets the best matchup in the league for running backs as the Texans have been torched by backs all season long. He has monster upside this week and it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see one of those Henry games where he runs for 150+ yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Saquon Barkley, New York Giants
Barkley continues to be an elite option as he has scored at least 18.5 dk points in all but one game this season (and even in that game he still notched double-digit points). He has at least two receptions in every game and at least three in all but one game. He also has topped 70 rushing yards in every single game this season and has gone over 110 rushing yards three times. The Seahawks rank as a top-five matchup for running backs this season. There is no reason to believe that Barkley won’t continue to shine.
NFL DFS RB Mid-Tier Plays
Kenneth Walker, Seattle Seahawks
Walker has looked incredible thus far as the Seahawks lead back. He has rushed for 353 yards (118 per game) over the last three games and has found the end zone FOUR times in that span (including at least once in each game). He has a solid matchup against the Giants (who rank towards the middle for backs) and should continue to be a big part of the Seattle offense. His price tag continues to rise and this may be the last time we even see him in the mid-tier range if he has another strong game this week.
NFL DFS RB Value Plays
Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins
Mostert has fully taken over the Miami backfield and has had at least 14 carries in four straight games. He has rushed for at least 49 yards in four straight and has found the end zone twice in that span. He had a season-high in both targets and receptions last week with four and five, respectively. With two games north of 20 fantasy points in his past four games, he has flashed some upside for a guy at his price tag. The Lions defense hasn’t been able to stop anyone this season and it seems unlikely that they can stop any part of the Dolphins offense.
Michael Carter, New York Jets
Carter doesn’t have the best of matchups, but I love his price tag. The Jets have lost Hall and even though they traded for James Robinson, Carter is going to be the featured back, at least for this week. J-Rob simply does not have enough time to get prepared for this game and learn the playbook. Carter should see a heavy dose of touches, both on the ground and through the air. I would consider him a safe cash game play and also a rock solid GPP play. He isn’t the talent level of Hall, but he can get the job done and Hall had been crushing as the Jets lead back.
NFL DFS RB Fades
Christian McCaffrey, Carolina Panthers
We will list CMC for a second straight week here. Last week I had him as a fade before he even got traded, but with the trade it makes it easier to fade him. He is the top priced back, but he simply shouldn’t be. He is still learning the 49ers playbook and the flow of their offense and is not going to get a full workload this week, just like he didn’t last week. Add to that the 49ers have a tough matchup for backs this week as they take on the Rams and there really just isn’t anything to like about playing CMC at this price.
