Chiefs vs. Raiders Predictions, Picks & Odds: NFL Week 8, Sunday 10/27
This AFC West “rivalry” has not been much of a rivalry lately. And the spread will indicate that. But guess what? That last time these teams faced, in December of 2023 on Monday Night Football, the Chiefs were favored by 11 points. And the Raiders outright won the game, 20-14. There is a reason we say these division games are tricky.
And that’s what makes our Chiefs vs. Raiders Week 8 prediction for this Sunday a tough one. Will it be business as usual for Patrick Mahomes and the gang? Of can Gardner Minshew pull some magic and turn this one into another trap game?

Chiefs vs. Raiders Predictions For NFL Week 8, Sunday 10/27
As we mentioned, the Raiders won the last time these teams met. Which has certainly not been the norm, as the Chiefs won the 6 prior matchups before that. In fact, the Chiefs have won 16 of the last 19 matchups between these teams. That’s why “rivalry” above was in quotes.
The Chiefs are undefeated, as we all know, and will try to make that 8 straight this week. The Raiders are sitting at 2-5 and just traded away star player Davante Adams. They did beat the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2 and the Cleveland Browns in Week 4 but have lost three straight games coming into this week.
Kansas City Chiefs: Pursuit of Perfection
Perfection is an interesting word to use here as things have certainly not been perfect for the Chiefs. On offense they lost key weapons in Rashee Rice, Isiah Pacheco, and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. To make up for that, they sign JuJu Smith-Schuster and Kareem Hunt then just recently traded for DeAndre Hopkins who is expected to make his debut this week.
On defense, the Chiefs currently rank 4th in DVOA per FTN Fantasy (7th vs. the pass and 5th vs. the rush). Nick Bolton has been a tackle machine while Chris Jones and George Karlaftis have applied the pressure up front. Meanwhile, Trent McDuffie has quickly become one of the toughest matchups in the NFL.
Las Vegas Raiders: Gardner Minshew - Part Two
Garder Minshew won the starting quarterback job this offseason. But, after a couple of subpar games, he was benched in favor of the young prospect Aiden O’Connell. AOC only lasted two starts unfortunately as a broken finger put Minshew back in the lineup.
After trading away star wide receiver Davante Adams, the Raiders are left with Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, and DJ Turner at wide receiver. Unfortunately, an ankle injury has kept Meyers sidelined. That has left them relying on rookie tight end Brock Bowers, the lone shining star of the offense this year. In the run game, Alexander Mattison has seemingly surpassed Zamir White though his production hasn’t been tremendous either.
The Raiders defense will get a boost as Maxx Crosby is expected to return this week. They will need it as they have been one of the worst units so far this year, especially against the run. And they’ll face the back-to-back Super Bowl champions this week.
Chiefs vs. Raiders Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines
As promised, the latest Chiefs vs. Raiders odds can be found below courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook:
- Point Spread: Kansas City Chiefs -9 (-120) vs. Las Vegas Raiders -9 (-110)
- Money Line: Kansas City Chiefs (-500) vs. Las Vegas Raiders (+375)
- Game Total (Over/Under): Over 41.5 (-110) vs. Under 41.5 (-110)
Chiefs vs. Raiders: Under 41.5 (-110 at BetMGM Sportsbook)
I wouldn’t necessarily call this game a “trap game”. I think the Chiefs are going to win and there is a good chance they cover the spread as well. I just don’t think the Raiders are really going to show up here.
The Chiefs have been susceptible against the tight end so Brock Bowers should be fine start in your fantasy football leagues and in DFS. I just don’t trust the run game or any of these other pass-catchers to carry their weight. Even with Jakobi Meyers expected to play, he goes up against Trent McDuffie.
The Chiefs honestly have not been operating at the highest level themselves. They’ve been playing down to their opponents and collecting a lot of penalties - especially formation-related penalties.
There could be some growing pains with DeAndre Hopkins playing his first game as well. I expect the Chiefs to take care of business in a low scoring affair and it’s not always easy to cover these large spreads in low scoring games.
