Welcome to the DFS Playbook for Wild Card Weekend of the NFL Playoffs!
With the way the DFS sites set up their DFS slates for this weekend, the original plan was to break up the weekend into three different playbooks – a two-gamer for Saturday, a three-game Playbook for Sunday and then a Showdown write-up for Monday's action. The big money contests, the million-dollar ones, were exclusive to the individual days, so I figured most people would play those, rather than the full six-game slate. But after speaking to many of you, apparently, a lot of people were planning on playing the full three-day, six-game slate. I can understand why, having played short-slates myself and preferring a bigger player pool from which to choose, so I've altered my plan a bit.
This Playbook will be for the full six-game slate. I will treat it just as I have throughout the season. You will get this Playbook and a Dart Board today (Friday) as well as a set of Example Lineups coming out on Saturday. The examples will consist of both cash game and GPP examples. What I will also do is a second set of Example Lineups for the individual days – both Saturday and Sunday – as well as a Showdown write-up/video from Tera Roberts on Monday. We will blanket this entire slate and leave no stone unturned.
And just a heads-up, there will be changes made to this Playbook between when it first publishes and Saturday before the games start. I've been digging into the match-ups and looking at it from more of a short-slate perspective, so this much broader scope is likely due for a bit of refinement as we move forward.
Sound good? Great.
Now, before we get to the Playbook players, allow me to remind you that the research process hasn't changed. You still have all the proper DFS content available, so everything you need to do beforehand stays the same..
Step 1: Check out the DFS Position Coaches
QB Coach – Jon Impemba (@jimpemba777)
RB Coach -- Justin Vreeland (@JustinVreeland)
WR Coach -- Colby Conway (@colbyrconway)
TE Coach -- Andrew Cooper (@CoopAFiasco)
D/ST Coach -- Dan Malin (@RealDANlanta)
Step 2: Check out the rest of the relevant DFS content
While we may not have a Watch List this week, we still have a number of our features which have already rolled out throughout the week. You will have the NFL DFS Podcast with me and Jon Impemba (Saturday morning), who also does the Contrarian Corner video and you can still check out the DFS Bargains from Tera (@ItsTeraTime).
Also, our Master of Tools, Matt Selz (@theselzman), supplies you data junkies with the Weekly Match-Up Report and everyone should also be checking out the WR/CB Match-Up Report from Ryan Hallam (@fightingchance).
Step 3: Make your own list of players
It's real easy to just sit and wait for the Playbook, but as you are doing your research throughout the week, it is important to make notes and list the players who interest you the most. Maybe they end up in the Playbook and maybe they don't. If they're there, then great, it should mean we are honing in on the same things that make him a strong play. If not, maybe you're onto something else that someone overlooked. We aren't perfect and if you uncover something different, maybe you're right. I would be careful of routine groupthink and hype from beat writers, but often times someone will tell me something they saw about their local team that I missed and I am always looking to investigate more if its there. If you do, then say something in our Fantasy Alarm Discord Chat,. Talk it out and see what the rest of the #FAmily thinks. That's why the chat is there, isn't it?
With those three steps complete and discussions are in progress, you are ready to look at the Playbook players, make comparisons and finalize your list for lineups, so let's get to it.
How about one final step before we actually begin?
SUNDAY CHANGES:
If you are using the NFL Lineup Generator, I want to make sure I have the late adds included to that if/when you select the “Playbook + Dart Board” setting, you have all the proper players included. As of 10:15am ET the following players are being added to the Playbook for Sunday Only contests:
- Najee Harris, RB PIT
- Boston Scott, RB PHI
- Brandon Aiyuk, WR SF
- Jauan Jennings, WR SF
- DeVonta Smith, WR PHI
- Dallas Goedert, TE PHI
WEATHER UPDATE:
PHI/TB – morning rain will subside well before game-time; winds at 15-20 mph so it looks like the passing game should be fine.
