Arizona Cardinlas
Though the production hasn't yet been there for his fantasy owners, Drake continues to dominate the snap count at the running back position as well as the touches. He saw four red zone carries so the oppurtunity to score is there. Let's not give up hope just yet as the Cardinals offense is looking sharp to start the year.
Atlanta Falcons
Gotta love the red zone touches with Gurley and eventually those will turn into more touchdowns than just the one he has on the season. Gurley's role in this high scoring offense is secured baring injury and thought he failed to see a target in Week 2, I do trust he will become more part of the passing attack as the season progresses.
Baltimore Ravens
After rookie J.K. Dobbins had a monster Week 1 he was barely used in Week 2. Though seeing 31-percent of the offensive snaps he managed just two carries and one catch on one target. Mark Ingram led the backfield with 42-percent off the offensive snaps and was able to find the end zone on a 30-yard run. Baltimore never had trouble with Houston but fantasy owners have to hate how this backfield is shaping up with Gus Edwards continuing to see carries.
Buffalo Bills
Many feared that Singletary was going to lose his starting role to Moss in this offense but through two weeks it has been fairly split with Singletary being the better and more consistent back so far through two weeks. Buffalo has yet to face a real challenge this season with only the Jets and the Dolphins as their opponents but in Week 3 they face a stronger test with the Los Angeles Rams.
Carolina Panthers
Whelp, CMC is out for at least the next 4-to-6 weeks which leaves Mike Davis as the lead back. He saw just one carry after CMC's exit but his eight catches on eight targets is certainly a delight for those who added Davis with hopes to get some level of production while they wait for McCaffrey to return.
Chicago Bears
Montgomery owners should love what they saw in Week 2 as he dominated the touches and even was involved in the passing attack with three catches on three targets while playing 54-percent of the offensive snaps. Tarik Cohen was on the field for 32-percent of the offensive snaps but saw just five carries and one target in Week 2. Those who invested in Cohen certainly need more than one target for a running back whose skillset is catching the football.
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals were trailing in this one so it makes some sense that Bernard and Mixon had a near even timeshare with the offensive snaps. Mixon dominated the carries with 16 while Bernard saw seven targets. If the Bengals find themselves trailing in a lot of games this season then Mixon owners may find themselves in rough shape. A positive takeaway if you are a Mixon owner however should be the four targets. Mixon is capable pass catcher but isn't often involved in the passing game. If that changes his fantasy floor moves up in PPR leagues.
Cleveland Browns
Crisis averted! After Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb split touches there were many wondering exactly how this running back time share would pan out heading into Week 2. Fortunately, I think we have our answer with Chubb seeing 62-percent of the snaps and Hunt seeing 34-percent of the snaps. Both backs had huge games but it seems like when Cleveland is ahead they will run Chubb and when they are behind they will use Hunt given his pass catching ability.
Dallas Cowboys
The only thing frusterating for an Elliott owner after Week 2 is the fact that Dak Prescott ran for three touchdowns and while Elliott still found the end zone himself, getting three touchdowns vultured by the QB is a tough pill to swallow for sure.
Denver Broncos
In a tough match up against the Steelers we saw Gordon play fairly well as he takes control of this Denver backfield while Phillip Lindsay is on the shelf. This week the Broncos are back home against a Buccaneers team that is having some issues right now which could lead to a solid fantasy day for Gordon.
Detroit Lions
Your guess is as good as mine right now when it comes to this backfield. The one consistent thing at least is the value that Swift should have in this offense whether it be as a runner or pass catcher. For Adrian Peterson , his strong Week 1 did little to keep his standing in the backfield as Kerryon Johnson saw a lot of early touches and was the back to find the end zone. This backfield is a dart throw.
Green Bay Packers
Absolute monster week from Aaron Jones in Week 2 and while the snap counts for he and Jamaal Williams are at a near split, the backfield is clearly all about getting Aaron Jones the football. Those fantasy owners who were able to snag him and his falling ADP are sure looking pretty smart right about now. Jones does have a tough test ahead however as the Saints defense has not allowed a 100-yard rusher since 2017.
Houston Texans
Few teams have drawn a tougher start to the season than the Texans as they have lost games to the Chiefs and Ravens through two weeks and now get the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3 in Pittsburgh. On the plus side, if you own David Johnson , he is healthy and playing a boat load of snaps. If Will Fuller 's hamstring continues to be a problem I think we could see Johnson more active in the passing game this week.
Indianapolis Colts
If you spent FAAB on Hines following Week 1 you have to wonder what exactly is going on with the Colts offense as he saw zero carries and just one target in their Week 2 contest. Jonthan Taylor dominated the snaps and carried the ball 26 times while adding two catches. Jordan Wilkins saw 23-percent of the snaps and added nine carries as the handcuff to Taylor. I don't imagine this is how things will go for Hines moving forward as his pass catching ability is strong and this offense just lost Paris Campbell but I'd at least be nervous.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Robinson has really taken over this backfield with back-to-back solid fantasy outputs. After a disapointing Week 1, Chris Thompson got back on track with three catches on four targets and was able to find the end zone. Though not listed above, it's worth noting that rookie receiver Laviska Shenault also saw five carries in this one as his ability to play a hybrid role should continue to be utilized by this Jacksonville coaching staff.
Kansas City Chiefs
Not quite the explosive Week 2 from Edwards-Helaire but the Chargers defense is much better than the one he faced in Week 1 with the Texans. Things only get tougher however as the Chiefs face what is likely the leagues top defensive unit in the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3. With all that said, this backfield is still CEH's with little contention.
Los Angeles Chargers
Ok, maybe I panick a little bit if I am an Ekeler owner as rookie Joshua Kelley is seeing a near split in offensive snap percentage and saw seven more carries than he did in the Charger's Week 2 loss to the Chiefs. Furethermore, Kelley lead the backfield again in red zone carries, this week with five. To me, it seems like the preseason question is getting answered and that is an emphatic NO when it comes to whether or not Ekeler will be relied upon as an everydown back.
Los Angeles Rams
More injuries continue to muddle this backfield with Akers getting hurt after three snaps and then Brown getting hurt later in the game which opened things up for Henderson who was not 100-percent heading into Week 1. As he head into Week 3 the Rams backfield has a tough match up against the Bills and it's possible that only Henderson will be active.
Las Vegas Raiders
This is clearly Jacob's backfield and though he managed just 88 yards in Week 2 against the Saints, the schedule for him and his overall usage is certainly heading in the right direction for those who expected a big time breakout campaign from the second-year running back. Jacobs also continues to be used in the passing game as he adds on three more catches on his way to the 60 catch goal he set out before the season started.
Miami Dolphins
I guess this solidifies it huh? Gaskin is the Dolphins lead back with Howard being featured in the red zone. What to do with Matt Breida is the real question to me, if you own him, you likely have to let him go as he is nothing more than a change of pace play it seems.
Minnesota Vikings
Another obvious situation here, as long as Dalvin Cook is healthy he should see the overwhelming percentage of offensive snaps. The Vikings do need to do more for him however as this is a team with few offensive players and just two targets does not seem like enough for a player of his skillset and playmaking ability.
New England Patriots
James White did not play in this game due to the tragic passing of his father and that opened the door for Rex Burkhead to dominate the offensive snaps thanks to his versatilty as a runner and pass catcher. The running game was again lead by QB Cam Newton but Burkhead's four catches on six targets was a nice add for fantasy owners who may have needed to scramble late Sunday night. Sony Michel ....your days could be numbered with Damien Harris expected back soon.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints offense largely struggled in this one outside of Alvin Kamara who lead the team in both rushing and receiving while finding the end zone twice. With Michael Thomas sidelined we saw Brees checkdown to Kamara often, resulting in a team best nine catches on nine targets. As long as he stays healthy, those who drafted Kamara, should be looking at a contender for the No.1 overall RB come seasons end.
New York Giants
Yikes, Barkley suffered a season ending torn ACL in Week 2 and the team leaned on Dion Lewis however, Lewis is not the man to trust in this backfield after the Giants went and signed Devonta Freeman to take over for Barkley. There could certainly be some early time share here as Freeman learns the offense between Lewis, Wayne Gallaman and himself but eventually I see Freeman taking over given his ability to be a three down back.
New York Jets
Hard pass, the Jets are in shambles. Frank Gore led the team with 21 carries and he is going to be the guy till Bell is back but I don't want anything to do with this offense and neither should you.
Philadelphia Eagles
Sanders returned and dominated the snaps and touches. He even saw seven targets in the passing attack. Those who talked endlessly how Doug Pederson never used a featured back this offseason are looking pretty foolish after Sanders looks to be the clear cut guy in the Eagles backfield with little competition for touches as long as he can stay healthy.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers pretty much told us right away that Conner's ankle injury wasn't anything serious yet fantasy owners dropped a lot of FAAB on Benny Snell heading into Week 2 and that quickly came back to haunt them as Conner saw 77-percent of the offensive snaps while carrying the ball 16 times to Snell's three. Snell is a good handcuff but if Conner is healthy it's pretty clear who Mike Tomlin favors.
Seattle Seahawks
Good to see Carson find the end zone again this week and also lead the team in carries with 17. As long as he can hold onto the football this running back job should be his without question but Carlos Hyde is certainly looking for his oppurtunity to take snaps away should Carson start putting the ball on the ground.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are going into Week 3 with just two of the four backs listed above as both Mostert and Tevin Coleman suffered knee injuries. Fantasy owners should expect McKinnon to be the lead back with Wilson providing a change of pace and likely getting some end zone carries here as well. Mostert could be back as soon as Week 4 but Coleman is landing on IR.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Ronald Jones got the first rushing touchdown of the day but it was Leonard Fournette who finished this game out. Jones fumbled early and it seemed like from that point on he was splitting snaps with Fournette. My take has always been that this backfield will eventually be Fournettes to own as soon as he gets more reps in practice. I am expecting another near 50/50 split in Week 3 against the Buccaneers with Fournette pulling away little by little each week.
Tennessee Titans
Can't be thrilled that Henry wasn't able to find the end zone against the Jaguars while Ryan Tannehill throws for four touchdowns. That said, there is zero competition for Henry in this backfield and he did see six red zone carries. Hopefully in Week 3 against a BAD Vikings defense he can really start to get his rumble on.
Washington Football Team
Antonio Gibson was the lead back in this one and likely will be the lead running back moving forward. It seemed like this was the plan all along as Gibson was getting a lot of hype in camp and then the team released Adrian Peterson . In Week 1 Gibson was just getting his feet wet but after leading the team in snaps and carries in Week 2 I think it's safe to assume we get more of the same in Week 3 when the Washington Football Team plays the Cleveland Browns.
