Welcome to Loserball, a unique and hilarious twist on fantasy football where you pick teams, not players, and score points when those teams lay an egg on the field.

In other words: the worse your team does, the more points you get!

You may think picking losers is easy, but at Loserball, there’s more to it. Their scoring system makes it so there’s more skill and knowledge needed than simply selecting the teams with the worst record on a given slate.

You can get a refresher on Loserball scoring here and below. We’ve also shared the Week 1 handicaps for the best - or rather, the worst - NFL team performances, as well as our picks to help you make your Week 1 picks.

First things first, though. Join Loserball now and play in Fantasy Alarm’s #FAmily League. It’ll be a blast, and you can even take down your favorite content creators!

Loserball Fantasy Scoring: May The Worst Team Win!

Loserball’s scoring system features negative points across 16 categories of mistakes, including penalties, missed field goals, turnovers returned for touchdowns and much more.

What this means from a strategy perspective is that it’s not about whether a team wins or loses - it’s how they win or lose.

Teams like the Giants, Jets, Commanders and Patriots weren’t great 2023 Loserball targets because of their win/loss records - it was because they were league leaders in turnovers, missed FGs, missed XPs, and other key Loserball categories.

NFL Week 1 Handicaps: Loserball Fantasy Football

Loserball’s unique and innovative game levels the playing field by giving each NFL team a handicap based on an algorithm that projects pitiful performance.

Teams expected to play poorly have high handicaps to balance out their huge negative scoring totals. The better an NFL team is predicted to play, the lower the handicap. For example, a strong team like the San Francisco 49ers have a handicap of 0, while a team expected to struggle, like the Vikings, have a massive handicap of 126.

You can see the full list of NFL Week 1 team handicaps here!

The 49ers are considered one of the best teams in the NFL. They have the lowest Week 1 handicap despite matching up against another top team in the Jets. The game is expected to be close, with the 49ers currently favored to win by only 3.5 points.

The Vikings have the highest Week 1 handicap by far. They’re just one-point underdogs to an inspiring Giants team on the road. However, the algorithm clearly doubts QB Sam Darnold taking the reins!

Other notable handicaps challenging your Week 1 selections include:

  • Last year’s best Loserball team, the Carolina Panthers, were awarded a low 23-point handicap at New Orleans. Does this suggest it’s back to the “Aints” for the Saints?
  • The Dolphins (60) and the Jaguars (58) have almost identical handicaps matching up against each other in what we could label the “Florida Failure” Bowl.
  • Rookie QBs making their first NFL starts are ripe for Loserball stardom. Jayden Daniels and the Commanders have the third-highest handicap at 77 against the Bucs, while Caleb Williams and the Bears have the second-highest number at 93 hosting the Titans.

As you can see, there is no direct correlation of handicaps to NFL point spreads and expected team win totals. Fortunately, there is a great deal of free research available to help you win at Loserball. Dive into Loserball’s team previews and stat breakdowns here.
