NFL Injury Report 2024 - Fantasy Football Week 1: Jahmyr Gibbs, Tyreek Hill

Week 1 of the NFL season has finally arrived. Bart Scott can’t WAIT until Thursday night.
NFL Injury Report For Week 1: Fantasy Football Injuries
With all of the positives surrounding the return of football, there are always negatives due to the violent nature of the sport. Those negatives are directly related to injuries. With the season set to begin, let’s dive into the players with their Week 1 status hanging in the balance.
NFL Injury Report Week 1: Running Backs
Jahmyr Gibbs Injury Update - Hamstring
Just when I started to type up that there shouldn’t be too much worry about Jahmyr Gibbs’ Week 1 status, head coach Dan Campbell got on the podium and reassured me of that.
Jaylen Warren Injury Update - Hamstring
After leaving the Steelers' second preseason game with a hamstring injury, Jaylen Warren’s status heading into Week 1 of the regular season has largely been in question until practice on Monday. It’s all but confirmed Warren’s going to be ready to rock and it doesn’t look like he’ll have many limitations.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire Injury Update - Illness
This has been a little sad since the reports came out, but Edwards-Helaire has officially been placed on the NFI list (non-football illness) due to a mental health issue stemming from PTSD. It was an incident that occurred in college and CEH will officially miss the first four weeks of the season because of it.
NFL Injury Report Week 1: Wide Receivers
Tyreek Hill Injury Update - Thumb
The Dolphins wideouts have been the biggest question marks around fantasy football injuries heading into Week 1, but Tyreek Hill spoke to the media on Monday morning about his thumb and said everything is good. He specifically gave us fantasy managers the thumbs up too, no pun intended.
Jaylen Waddle Injury Update - Undisclosed
The red jersey is OFF for Jaylen Waddle as Week 1 opens up this week. Waddle is practicing in full according to head coach Mike McDaniel.
Jordan Addison Injury Update - Ankle
Although it’s been reported that Addison was back at practice on Monday, we need to follow the reports thoroughly. In the first video below from Judd Zulgad of Vikings Wire, Addison is reported to be practicing, and he was definitely on the field.
This second video and tweet from Andrew Krammer of the Star Tribune suggest that there wasn’t much of Addison on the field beyond what we see from this second video below.
That’s not a great start to practice for Week 1 if he wasn’t able to do much of anything other than stretching. Then again, the media wasn’t able to catch all of the practice, so we should know more as the week goes on about Addison’s availability.
Hollywood Brown Injury Update - Shoulder
It took no time at all for the new Chiefs receiver to go down with an injury as he was hurt in the team’s first preseason game and Brown has been listed as OUT for Week 1 of the NFL season. Now, the Chiefs had an opportunity to place him on IR if they thought this would be a long-term thing and they chose against it. That should speak volumes that Brown is close to being game-ready and should be back either Week 2 or Week 3. Chiefs GM Brett Veach spoke to that as well.
DeAndre Hopkins Injury Update - Knee
DeAndre Hopkins hosted his first youth camp in Nashville over the weekend and let everyone know to temper expectations about Week 1. He’s preparing to play but isn’t 100% committing to doing so given the nature of the long season ahead.
Curtis Samuel Injury Update - Toe
After participating in practice last week on a limited basis, things are trending upward for Curtis Samuel who’s been dealing with turf toe this offseason. We’ll learn more about Samuel’s Week 1 status as the week goes on.
Josh Downs Injury Update - Ankle
We’re closing in on a month since Josh Downs hurt his ankle in 7-on-7 practice and it looks like he could be sidelined for over a month, including through Week 1, based on head coach Shane Steichen’s comments. Steichen said Downs is “progressing well” but his status for Week 1 is unknown at this time.
Ricky Pearsall Injury Update
An unfortunate injury to be reporting, but the San Francisco 49ers rookie receiver was shot over the weekend and is thankfully in stable condition. It was an attempted robbery and the bullet exited through his back cleanly, which is very obviously a good thing. There’s no word on his road to recovery just yet, but we hope he gets back to full strength soon.
NFL Injury Report Week 1: Tight Ends
Sam LaPorta Injury Update - Hamstring
As mentioned above with Jamyhr Gibbs, head coach Dan Campbell helped us through any concerns we may have had with LaPorta heading into Week 1. All systems go!
Mark Andrews Injury Update - Undisclosed
After being involved in a car accident, Mark Andrews missed over two weeks of practice time but is back on the field practicing and has reported himself healthy enough to play Thursday night against the Kansas City Chiefs according to Mike Golic.
Dallas Goedert Injury Update - Oblique
For the second straight day, Dallas Goedert was on the practice field for Monday, September 2nd, as the Packers are nearing their Week 1 matchup against the Eagles on Friday night. Things are trending in the right direction for Goedert to play in this game considering his nagging oblique injury.
Player News
49ers signed No. 11 pick EDGE Mykel Williams to a four-year contract.
The deal is worth $24.9 million and is fully guaranteed. As is the case with all first-round picks, his contract includes a fifth-year option. The 49ers shed hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts this offseason and the bulk of those savings came on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive end was an obvious position of need and Williams was widely regarded as the best pass-rusher on the board when 49ers GM John Lynch was on the clock. Williams totaled five sacks in 2024 and left Georgia with 14 sacks across three seasons as a starter.
Vikings signed No. 24 pick OG Donovan Jackson to a four-year contract.
It’s a fully guaranteed deal worth $17.2 million with a fifth-year team option. Minnesota taking Jackson with the 24th-overall pick came as a bit of a surprise on draft night, but the Vikings needed offensive line help and Jackson was considered worthy of a first-round pick by some draftniks. He was primarily a left guard at Ohio State but successfully kicked out to tackle for the bulk of his senior season. Jackson is likely fated for guard duties in Minnesota, but the positional versatility remains a plus.
Titans claimed Anfernee Orji off waivers from the Saints.
Orji played primarily on special teams in New Orleans but was credited with two starts across 16 appearances. He totaled 30 combined tackles and a pair of TFLs. Orji will need to continue seeing work on special teams to make the Titans’ roster.
Patriots signed RB Trayveon Williams, formerly of the Bengals.
Henderson was passed on the Cincinnati depth chart by Chase Brown last year and the team even traded for Khalil Herbert midseason. Despite having no role on offense, Williams was active for all 17 games as a special teamer. He will likely hold a similar role in New England if he cracks the team’s 53-man roster.
Free agent RB Jordan Mims worked out for the Patriots.
The Pats also worked out former Bengals running back Trayveon Williams. Mims ran 20 times for 70 yards in 2024 while adding 12 catches for 71 yards through the air. He also got some run on special teams. The Patriots are looking for some extra depth at running back, but there isn’t room for another fantasy-relevant option behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson.
Jaguars signed TE Quintin Morris, formerly of the Bills, to a one-year contract.
Morris is purely a blocking tight end. He caught just 15 passes during his three years with the Bills, though he did manage to find the end zone three times. Morris will back up Brenton Strange in Jacksonville.
