2022 NFL Injury Report Week 13: Travis Etienne, Christian McCaffrey, and Aaron Rodgers Injury Updates
LATEST UPDATE: 12/2 @ 1 pm ET
As the NFL season moves past Week 12, the regular season games are dwindling and we can smell the fantasy football playoffs at this point. There have been some significant injuries over the past few weeks and Week 12 was no different as the likes of Travis Etienne, Aaron Rodgers, and Darnell Mooney all went down. What will Week 13 have in store for us? Let’s continue to monitor the practice reports and report what we know! Let’s dive in.
2022 NFL Injury Report Fantasy Football Week 13
NFL Quarterback Injury News
Justin Fields, Chicago Bears - Shoulder
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 3:50 pm ET - After conflicting reports about if there were limitations or not, both NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and ESPN's Adam Schefter have both said Justin Fields was a FULL participant in today's practice. Things are trending in the right direction for Justin Fields playing in Week 13.
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 3:10 pm ET - Fields said he feels better than he did last week, which has led to him practicing in a limited fashion on Wednesday. There is nothing confirming his Week 13 status, but getting an early-week practice in is a good sign.
After being diagnosed with a shoulder separation, Fields sat out in Week 12 and it makes you wonder how the Bears will approach things moving forward. There are a lot of differences in opinions on what Fields should do and even head coach Matt Eberflus mentioned it *could* be season-ending. We’ll have to monitor practice as the Bears take on the Packers in Week 13.
Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers - Ribs
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 3:50 pm ET - Just a few days ago the talk was about Aaron Rodgers shutting it down this year and possibly never playing football again. On Thursday, he was back at practice and intends to play in Week 13.
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 3:00 pm ET - Although Aaron Rodgers is not going to practice on Wednesday, the expectation is that he's going to suit up for the Packers in Week 13. We learned that much on the Pat McAfee show on Tuesday when Aaron Rodgers said his MRI came back clean and he felt better.
Rodgers came into their Week 12 game with a broken thumb, but he left it with an oblique injury. They received the initial results of the MRI Rodgers received on Monday but it doesn’t seem as if the Packers will disclose what came back or if it came back a bit inconclusive. We’ll likely find out more come Wednesday when the Packers hit the practice field. All you’re going to hear this week is whether or not Rodgers should shut it down for the remainder of the year. Buckle up.
Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers - Knee
The 49ers quarterback took a shot to his surgically repaired knee that was flagged and wasn’t a great-looking play optically and head coach Kyle Shanahan acknowledged it almost knocked Garoppolo out of the game. We’ll see how his knee has responded by the time San Fran kicks off practice on Wednesday.
Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams - Concussion
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 2:50 pm ET - When asked by the media on Wednesday, head coach Sean McVay said it's safe to assume Matthew Stafford won't play in Week 13. He's still in concussion protocol and isn't practicing on Wednesday. They haven't shut him down for the remainder of the year, but it wouldn't be surprising if he was shut down eventually.
Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens - Quad
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 3:30 pm ET - It was initially reported that Lamar Jackson wasn't practicing on Thursday but according to Luke Jones, a Baltimore beat writer, Jackson was late and IS on the field working. Looks like he'll be just fine in Week 13.
NFL Running Back Injury News
Travis Etienne, Jacksonville Jaguars - Foot
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 3:30 pm ET - Thursday was Etienne's second straight day of limited practice, but it's great to see him on the field. He went through drills and looked solid in doing so. Etienne is trending towards playing.
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 3:30 pm ET - Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said they feel really good about Etienne's status heading into Week 13 and he even participated in some stuff during Jaguars practice on Wednesday. Etienne's in a fantastic game environment this upcoming week, we just need to make sure he's 100% ready to go and the Jaguars don't hold him back at all.
This is fantasy football owner’s worst nightmare. Seeing head coach Doug Pederson mention that Travis Etienne was cleared to return to Sunday’s game but they didn’t want to risk further injury. That’s brutal. He didn’t even score one fantasy point after playing just five total snaps. Jacksonville is saying it’s not serious and he’ll be ready to go in Week 13, but let’s see how things play out at practice this week. JaMycal Hasty would be in line for a heavy workload in his place.
Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers - Knee
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 3:00 pm ET - According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, Christian McCaffrey will not practice on Wednesday. They hope to have him available this Sunday when the 49ers take on the Dolphins.
It confused a lot of people as to why Christian McCaffrey’s usage was what it was for the third straight week during the 49ers' Week 12 game. He hasn’t topped 65% of the team's offensive snaps in each of the last three weeks and it’s likely due to a left-knee ailment. It hasn’t been diagnosed, but there’s a chance he’s playing through tendinitis and that could continue to limit his practices and snap shares during the actual games.
Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals - Concussion
UPDATE: 12/2 @ 12:50 pm ET – Mixon is still in concussion protocol as of Friday and a decision on his status for Week 13 is expected soon. The Bengals running back has been limited in practice while returning from the concussion, but we have to monitor the situation to see if he'll play on Sunday.
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 3:00 pm ET - Joe Mixon is returning to practice on Wednesday and is in the last stage of concussion protocol. This was seemingly always the plan and if he does return here he'll have missed just one entire game.
Reports came out on Monday from ESPN’s Adam Schefter that things are trending in the right direction for Joe Mixon to return to action in Week 13. Mixon missed the Bengals' Week 12 victory over the Titans and is getting healthy at the right time with the Chiefs up next on the schedule.
Michael Carter, New York Jets - Ankle
UPDATE: 12/2 @ 12:50 pm ET – Jets head coach Robert Saleh said on Friday that Carter is doubtful to play this week. Expect Zonovan Knight and Ty Johnson to be viable fantasy options if Carter is indeed out this week.
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 3:45 pm ET - Second day of practice this week on Thursday for the Jets and the second straight DNP for Michael Carter. We haven't seen many players return from an ankle sprain a week after suffering one this year. If Carter doesn't get on the practice field on Friday, it's unlikely we see him in Week 13 and Zonovan Knight likely carries the load.
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 3:10 pm ET - Head coach Robert Salah let us know that Michael Carter will not practice on Wednesday. He was initially listed day-to-day and there is a chance he practices at some point this week, but Wednesday is not one of those days. If he doesn't practice by Friday, we should assume he'll miss their game in Week 13.
After leaving yesterday’s game, Carter has a low-ankle sprain according to head coach Robert Salah. There’s a chance he plays in Week 13 as well. With a divisional rival in Buffalo on the schedule for Week 14, there’s definitely a chance the Jets play it safe this week, but let’s wait and see how practice looks for Carter as the week plays out. Zonovan Knight had 16 touches and 104 yards after Carter left while James Robinson was a healthy scratch.
J.K. Dobbins, Baltimore Ravens - Knee
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 3:00 pm ET - Dobbins has returned to practice on Wednesday, opening up his 21-day window to be activated off of IR. The expectation is he will be back within that timeframe, but nothing specific on when his return will be.
It looks like we’re inching closer to a return from J.K. Dobbins as he’s going to practice in some capacity this week. How much remains to be seen, but this will open up the 21-day window for the Ravens to decide to activate him or not off of IR. Dobbins injured his knee back in Week 6 and we haven’t seen him since. He’s played in four games this year.
Damien Harris, New England Patriots - Thigh
Don’t expect to see Damien Harris back in Week 13 as there are already reports from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that Harris is all but out in Week 13 and will be week-to-week moving forward. It’s been tough sledding for Harris this year and the uphill battle continues as he’s missed time with a multitude of injuries.
Elijah Mitchell, San Francisco 49ers - Knee
2022 has been a lost season for Elijah Mitchell as he’s going to miss 6-to-8 weeks with a sprained MCL for the second time this season. Mitchell had carved out a significant role alongside Christian McCaffrey lately as CMC is dealing with his own knee ailment. After Mitchell exited their Week 12 game, Jordan Mason saw five carries and played nine snaps. Something to monitor moving forward.
Mike Boone, Denver Broncos - Ankle
There’s a chance the Broncos open up Mike Boone’s 21-day window to return from IR this week as there is a chance he returns to practice, according to head coach Nathaniel Hackett. Boone has been on IR with a high-ankle sprain and is entering the window when players typically return from them. With Melvin Gordon released and Chase Edmonds on IR, Boone could make an immediate impact upon return.
Najee Harris, Pittsburgh Steelers - Abdomen
UPDATE: 12/2 @ 1 pm ET – Harris said on Friday that he plans to play this week for the Steelers, according to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He's dealing with an oblique injury and hasn't practiced yet this week, but it appears Harris himself is confident he'll suit up in Week 13.
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 4:00 pm ET - For a second straight day, Najee Harris did not practice for the Steelers. Things are trending down for Harris' Week 13 status. Jaylen Warren practiced in full and will lead the way if Harris is ruled out.
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 3:00 pm ET - It was reported earlier today by NFL's Ian Rapoport that Harris did not suffer a major abdomen injury, but is a question mark for Week 13. There were pictures and videos surfacing from Steelers practice on Wednesday and he was not seen practicing.
After starting his Week 12 off with a bang, scoring his third touchdown in two games, Harris left Monday night with an injury to his abdomen and did not return. Now we wait to see the severity of the injury and scramble to our waiver wires to put a bid on Benny Snell after his 13 opportunities after Harris left the game.
Jaylen Warren, Pittsburgh Steelers - Hamstring
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 4:00 pm ET - Unlike Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren has practiced in full for two consecutive days. If and when Najee Harris is ruled out, Jaylen Warren could lead the Steelers backfield. It's worth noting Week 12 savior Benny Snell was listed as limited on Thursday.
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 3:00 pm ET - After everyone went out and picked up Benny Snell on the waiver wire, Jaylen Warren has been cleared to return from his hamstring injury and was back at practice on Wednesday. Warren has operated as the team's second running back all year long and there's no reason to think he wouldn't be the RB1 if Najee Harris sits out.
Antonio Gibson, Washington Commanders - Foot
UPDATE: 12/2 @ 12:50 pm ET – Gibson returned to practice on Friday but is still listed as questionable on the Commanders' injury report. As mentioned below, it seems yesterday's absence from practice was precautionary and it appears the Washington RB could be active on Sunday despite the foot injury.
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 3:30 pm ET - After being limited on Wednesday, Antonio Gibson was downgraded to a DNP on Thursday with a foot injury. Gibson has had foot issues throughout his NFL career, so something popping up this late in the year is not great. It sounds like this was a planned rest day according to offensive coordinator Scott Turner, but we'll see if he suits up for Friday's practice.
Leonard Fournette, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Hip
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 3:50 pm ET - The Bucs are hosting their first full practice of the week on Thursday and after missing the team's Week 12 game, Leonard Fournette is back on the field practicing. This puts his status for Week 13 in a good light, but what will his workload be? Rachaad White could be the RB1 if/when Fournette returns.
NFL Wide Receiver Injury News
Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals - Hip
After being close to returning in Week 12, the Bengals are getting their top dog back in Week 13 as NFL’s Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that Chase is going to be back against the Chiefs. There’s nothing definitive on a limitation of snaps, but as of now, it looks the Bengals offense will have everyone back in Week 13.
Darnell Mooney, Chicago Bears - Ankle
We got the unfortunate news that Darnell Mooney is going to miss the remainder of this season with an ankle injury that knocked him out of their Week 12 game. Mooney will end his season with 40 receptions, 493 yards, and two touchdowns. The rapport he began showing with Justin Fields is something to build on for 2023. In his stead, the Bears will need Chase Claypool to step up in a major way.
Allen Robinson, Los Angeles Rams - Foot
The hits just keep on coming for the Rams as Allen Robinson will miss the remainder of the year with a foot injury that will require surgery. It’s been an extremely disappointing season for Robinson and with both he and Cooper Kupp sidelined, look for Van Jefferson to continue to be a solid fantasy contributor as he scored his second touchdown in as many weeks in Week 12.
Jakobi Meyers, New England Patriots - Shoulder
After leaving the Patriots Thanksgiving Day game in Week 12, Meyers returned to action, but not without an ailment to his shoulder. We’ll have to monitor how things play out at practice this week, but it was a great sign that he was able to return and finish the game.
Kadarius Toney, Kansas City Chiefs - Hamstring
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 3:30 pm ET - Another day, another missed practice for Kadarius Toney. The hamstring issues are real whether or not people want to act like they are or not. They were last year, they are this year. Toney is trending towards not playing in Week 13.
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 3:00 pm ET - Anytime we see “Kadarius Toney is not practicing” is not a good sign. He's missed so much time through two seasons that this is trending towards another DNP in Week 13. If he can get back on the practice field on Thursday or Friday, Toney has a chance to play.
Head coach Andy Reid didn’t sound too optimistic when asked about Kadarius Toney as he said they’re going to play it safe. Sounds like the hamstring injuries the Giants kept him out for were actually serious. Toney didn’t seem to think so. We’ll see what practice looks like on Wednesday for Toney.
Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams - Ankle
The latest update from head coach Sean McVay suggests it’s possible that Cooper Kupp is shut down for the remainder of the season. With the Rams falling further and further back in the standings, what would the point be for Kupp to potentially risk even more damage if he were to return?
Romeo Doubs, Green Bay Packers - Ankle
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 3:10 pm ET - Doubs was back on the field and back at practice for the first time since he suffered a high-ankle sprain back on November 6th. Doubs' impact could be felt immediately and the Packers have a LOT to look forward to at wide receiver with the recent emergence of Christian Watson.
Jerry Jeudy, Denver Broncos - Ankle
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 3:30 pm ET - Jeudy will not be practicing one again on Thursday as it's trending towards another DNP in Week 13. With the Broncos season lost, there's no need to rush Jeudy back before he's ready.
UPDATE: 11/30 @ 3:10 pm ET - Jeudy's ankle is still bothering him enough to keep him out of practice on Wednesday. It's still crazy to think about Denver calling it a minor injury initially and he still hasn't played. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett said he's day-to-day moving forward.
Darius Slayton, New York Giants - Illness
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 3:30 pm ET - This isn't great news for the Giants as their number one receiver didn't practice on Thursday due to an illness. We'll have to monitor this situation for the remainder of the week because if Slayton isn't active on Sunday, the Giants receiver room is going to look rough.
Mike Williams, Los Angeles Chargers - Ankle
UPDATE: 12/1 @ 5:00 pm ET - Williams has now missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday and his status for Week 13 is officially in question. Considering it was a re-aggravation of his same sprained ankle, this shouldn't surprise us knowing how long high-ankle sprains typically keep players out.
NFL Tight End Injury News
David Njoku, Cleveland Browns – Knee
Njoku has been ruled out for this week's game against the Texans with a knee injury. Harrison Bryant will likely step into the starting tight end role for the Cleveland Browns in Week 13.
Daniel Bellinger, New York Giants - Eye
There hasn’t been anything definitive on Bellinger lately, but head coach Brian Daboll had said before their Thanksgiving Day game that he was improving. Before the game, Bellinger was running routes with a helmet on, adjusting to having things back on. From all reports, everything went smoothly. We could see him back at practice this week.
Isaiah Likely, Baltimore Ravens - Ankle
The Ravens talented backup tight end was inactive in Week 12 and we were unsure why until head coach John Harbaugh told the media he sprained his ankle last Friday. Considering it was just a tweak, he should be ready to rock in Week 13.
Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints - Ankle
UPDATE 12/1 @ 4:00 pm ET - You never like seeing a player pop on the injury report as the week takes a turn to the backhalf, but here we are. Johnson did not practice on Thursday due to an ankle injury and that's not great news for his Week 13 status. We'll have to watch out for Friday's practice report.
