Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Report October 17th
Published: Oct 17, 2021
Welcome to the Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Report! The waiver wire is key to winning. It helps you improve on the team you drafted, and to help patch holes when players go down due to injury. It’s something most managers will monitor daily. Let’s take a look at who we should be adding this week.
Evgeni Dadonov - Vegas Golden Knights - Winger
The Vegas Golden Knights are going to be without Max Pacioretty for about six-weeks, and the status of captain Mark Stone is still up in the air. That is a massive hole to fill on the top line, but that’s why you sign players like Evgeni Dadonov in the offseason. He’s capable of playing on the top line, and is widely available on the waiver wire. If you need some help up front, It would be best to add him.
Brandon Tanev - Seattle Kraken - Winger
I don’t think anyone expected Brandon Tanev to get off to this kind of start, but he has three goals so far this season, including one on the power play, while dishing out 11 hits. It’s unlikely that he keeps the pace up, but he’s hot to start, and he’s providing value to fantasy owners for literally nothing. In a category league, he should not be on the waiver wire.
Thomas Greiss - Detroit Red Wings - Goalie
We shouldn’t overreact to one game, but Alex Nedjelkovic did not look good in his start, and Thomas Greiss was lights out in his start. It’s not that the new guy in town was gave up seven goals to the back-to-back champions, but more that Greiss was elite in his start, and if he can build on that moment, he could see more starts that we previously expected. Again, it’s early in the season, but it’s worth monitoring this situation.
Jason Zucker - Pittsburgh Penguins - Winger
The Pittsburgh Penguins are down bad right now, but they are still winning hockey games. Jason Zucker only has two points in three games, but he’s mustard 11 shots on goal while playing over 16-minutes in two of those games. With volume like that, points are bound to follow. He’s 4% owned in Yahoo! leagues, and is worth adding if your team is dealing with some injuries.
Moritz Seider - Detroit Red Wings - Defence
With three points in two games, rookie Moritz Seider could be a nice early season addition. He’s on a bad team, but at some point, he should take over the quarterback position on the top power play that is currently being held by Nick Leddy. The kid is talented, and he’s seeing a healthy amount of ice time. He will struggle at times, but for now, he’s worth adding in deeper formats.
