Fantasy Football Week 9 Waiver Wire Spotlight: Devin Duvernay Must Add After Rashod Bateman Injury
NFL breaking news this afternoon that Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman will undergo season-ending surgery on his foot. Bateman was expected to be the top wide receiver on the Ravens this season after the team traded away Marquise Brown during the NFL draft. With Bateman now officially out of the picture many fantasy football managers will head towards the waiver wire to look for potential replacements. Of course, this isn't the first time fantasy football managers had to deal with Bateman's absence and yet the obvious replacements on the Ravens roster continue to be relatively under owned and while Demarcus Robinson may be the more available add along with James Proche the clear top add should be Devin Duvernay.
Devin Duvernay is a Top Wavier Wire Pickup After Rashod Bateman Season Ending Injury
If you look across the more popular fantasy football platforms we see Duvernay available anywhere from 40-to-60% of leagues. Duvernay is playing 60-to-70% of offensive snaps and is having his best season as a receiver since entering the league having totaled 24 catches on 32 targets for 313 yards and three touchdowns. He has also added seven rushing attempts for 55 yards and a touchdown. Duvernay has an 18.5% target share this season and a 15% target share in the red zone. The Ravens passing offense has been struggling of late, especially with the injuries to Mark Andrews to go with Bateman but this team is still going to need to throw the football. Duvernay should slot in as the WR1 on this roster moving forward and has big play upside.
When it comes to fantasy football value you may look at Duvernay as a WR3/Flex play most weeks. We know the Ravens offense is centered around their rushing attack but even that is beat up with J.K. Dobbins on the IR and Gus Edwards dealing with a hamstring injury leaving Kenyan Drake as the top running back in this offense currently. Until we start seeing more consistent production from this Ravens passing attack led by Lamar Jackson we have to temper the expectation for Duvernay in the weeks moving forwrad.
Demarcus Robinson Waiver Wire Pickup
If Duvernay is already claimed in your fantasy football league then Demarcus Robinson would be the next guy to go get. In Week 8 we saw Robinson play 63% of the team's offensive snaps while finishing with six catches on eight targets for 64-yards. His snap share sat around 75% during Week 5 and Week 6 when Bateman was out of the lineup as well so the team will have him on the field. We saw Robinson have success as part of the Chiefs offense last season.
James Proche Deep Waiver Wire Pickup
If Robinson and Duvernay are already added in your league then you may be looking at a deep flier on James Proche. Proche played 63% of the team's offensive snaps in Week 8 against the Buccaneers. He finished with three catches on four targets for 24 yards. We could also see the Ravens pivot to using Isaiah Likely as a wide receiver or use more two tight end sets once Mark Andrews is healthy.
