There’s no doubt the most intriguing prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft is Travis Hunter. We’ve never seen a two-way player like Hunter. Sure, Charles Woodson, Champ Bailey, and others have spent time on both sides of the ball, but none have legitimately played full time both ways like Hunter did.

Especially not to the level he has. His final season in college was so impressive that he won the Heisman trophy and the Bednarik trophy. Let’s dive into his draft projection.

Travis Hunter NFL Draft Landing Spot

Travis Hunter was expected to be a top-five pick from very early on in the NFL Draft process. Now, it’s almost certain that he will be a top-three pick as he is one of the only blue-chip prospects available in the draft. Hunter has the potential to be an all-pro at both wide receiver and cornerback, making him a top prospect. Hunter has publicly stated he has to play both ways in the NFL.

Originally, many thought it would make sense for Hunter to play full time at cornerback and moonlight as a wide receiver. But, when you consider the teams Hunter is likely to be drafted by, it’s more likely he’ll be a wide receiver first. The Browns, Giants, and Patriots at the top of the draft could all use help at receiver. Either way, Hunter can do it.

Travis Hunter NFL Draft Combine

Like many of the top prospects as of late, Travis Hunter chose not to participate in any drills at the NFL Combine. All he did was get measured, where he did weigh in slightly heavier than expected, which was a good sign.

We did, however, get to hear from many General Managers about their thoughts on what they would do with Hunter if they drafted him. Brown’s GM, Andrew Berry, said he thinks Hunter is a wide receiver first. A few days ago, the Giants' GM Joe Schoen said he wouldn’t be afraid to play Hunter both ways. Hunter did participate in the Colorado Pro Day, though, where he showed off his natural movement ability.

Travis Hunter Stats at Colorado

During his two years at Colorado, Travis Hunter was a top pass catcher, especially during his final season. In 2024, Hunter had an astounding 96 catches for 1258 yards and 15 touchdowns. Along with that, Hunter had 2.5 yards per route run and 2.6 yards per pass attempt in that final season, showing just how good he can be.

Mind you, this was while playing full time on defense as well, where he intercepted 4 passes, deflected another 11, and shut down most opposing wide receivers. It's now known that while with Colorado, Hunter would attend all the cornerback meetings during the week, and then on game day would be signaled his routes from the sideline while playing on offense.

Imagine what he could do if he spent more time preparing as a wide receiver. It’s no surprise Hunter won the Heisman and Bednarik trophies as previously mentioned.

Travis Hunter Draft Odds

Travis Hunter’s draft odds further show how well he’s thought of. As of now, Hunter is a -1000 favorite to be drafted second overall to the Browns. For most of the offseason, it seemed like quarterback could be on the menu for the Browns, but as of late, that has changed.

Cam Ward has become the overwhelming favorite for the first overall pick, and Shedeur Sanders has been sliding down draft boards. Meanwhile, Hunter has continued to solidify himself as one of the best players available. It’s hard to imagine Hunter falling out of the top three, and all signs point to him being drafted second overall.

Travis Hunter is a unicorn who can help the team that drafts him in many ways. Regardless of team, Hunter can be a playmaker on offense and defense, using his incredible movement skills and natural ball skills to make a difference.
