Corey Davis grounding the Eagles highlights this week’s Football Week That Was
Corey Davis : Corey Davis arrived big time on the WR1 radar Sunday reeling in nine catches for 151 yards and a TD on 16 targets including the game winner in OT. Watch the film. There is clearly a connection between Mariota and Davis that will only get stronger as the year progresses. With a tilt at Buffalo coming up, you want this guy on your team. You need this guy on your team. Who doesn’t want a 6’3” receiver with speed?
Melvin Gordon : Enough about he is not that good he just gets volume. Volume plus results equals fantasy football goodness. Gordon put up 159 yards from scrimmage Sunday adding seven grabs and a TD for approximately 29 PPR points. What is the problem? He is averaging eight targets per game so even in the tough rushing days (if there are any), the PPR points will be there. With Oakland and Cleveland next up (they demolished each others’ defenses last week), what is not to love? Buy!
Sterling Shepard : 10 targets, 10 receptions. Not too shabby. With Evan Engram on the shelf and the G-Men playing from behind (as they will do all year), Sterling was Sterling with 77 yards and a TD to go along with those 10 receptions. Carolina has a good D but the PPR points will be there as the Giants build up those garbage time points. Buy.
Ezekiel Elliott : Last week we wrote: “Zeke failed to reach the end zone Sunday for the first time this year (unless you count a play called back on penalty). That said, he did post 138 yards from scrimmage and reel in three receptions for a PPR score of 16.8. Why do I write about this? Well, there is probably a frustrated Zeke owner in your league who will sell for 75 cents on the dollar. S/he should not do that. Zeke is averaging 5.7 yards per carry and is on pace to score double digit TDs and rush for over 1,400 yards. Plus, you HAVE to figure that the Cowboys play-calling abomination will have to realize that feeding Zeke is the only way this offense will move. I am biased as a member of #cowboysnation but in fantasy, I am buying.” Zeke was AWESOME Sunday scoring a TD and putting together 240 yards from scrimmage (including a nifty, game-saving over the shoulder grab). Keep running him out there. I took him number 1 overall in many leagues exactly because of games like this. Against Houston, in prime time, Zeke, minor injuries notwithstanding, will see a heavy load.
Tyler Boyd : Last week we wrote: “Tyler Boyd was on fire Sunday reeling in six receptions for 132 yards and a TD. That is 25 fantasy points in PPR for those scoring at home. On the year, Boyd has 15 catches for 249 yards and two TD. If one were to do bogus math (and assume one game missed), that would yield 75 catches, almost 1,250 yards and 10 TD. Sweet. Will he get those numbers? Probably not. Will they be very good numbers? I believe so. Boyd is clearly the number two wideout on a team that will throw. [Note – when a QB says how good a WR is during the weekly media hits, perhaps it is worth paying attention. It worked for those who listened and invested in Boyd].” Well I hope you listened. This week Boyd again went off reeling in 11 catches for 100 yards on 15 targets. No reason to get off this train against the Fish this week with that kind of target share!
Julio Jones : Ugh, no TD again. That said 9 for 173 is pretty strong. With a sure fire shootout against the Steelers on the schedule, this is the week for Julio to have one of those patented “three TD, 180 yard, where the heck was that the last few weeks” game. Lock and load and then trade after the monster performance.
Final Note: Sorry about the Mike Williams pick last week. I still love him in standard leagues that overvalue the TDs though.
