Ideally, this should be a pretty quiet week for waivers. If you are still alive in your fantasy playoffs, congratulations are in order, though you probably don’t need much on the waiver wire. Of course, if you rode Carson Wentz to the fantasy playoffs, you likely need some help, and we are always looking for streaming defenses or hot tight ends, and we have some of those as well. The waiver adds listed below include their ownership in Yahoo! fantasy leagues as well as the amount in FAAB I would be willing to spend out of a $100 budget.
10-Team League Waiver Adds
Rod Smith, RB, DAL (13%) – I suspect I will get a ton of start/sit questions regarding Rod Smith this week, and rightfully so. Dallas gets Oakland this week, and Smith will likely be ranked ahead of similarly-used backs like Jerick McKinnon, Duke Johnson and Theo Riddick as a result. $100
Jonathan Stewart, RB, CAR (38%) – Jonathan Stewart has at least 11 carries in 12 of Carolina’s 13 games this season, but he has only topped 70 yards twice. That is my futile attempt to temper expectations following Stewart’s three-touchdown effort against Minnesota Sunday. Stewart gets Green Bay and Tampa Bay the next two weeks, and he should be a borderline starter in both games. $50
Peyton Barber, RB, TB (35%) – Doug Martin was benched Sunday after a fumble, and the Bucs seem unlikely to go back to him this season. It will be difficult to trust Barber completely unless Martin is inactive, but there is certainly room on your roster for a starting running back, even if you are simply keeping him away from your opponent. $40
Theo Riddick, RB, DET (41%) – Riddick had a season-high 10 carries Week 14, and he has three rushing touchdowns over the next two weeks with Ameer Abdullah out. I doubt the touchdowns are sustainable even if Abdullah remains out, but at least we know he is safe thanks to his catching ability. $10
Trey Burton, TE, PHI (8%) – Any Zach Ertz owner still alive in the playoffs needs to own Trey Burton, even though I suspect Ertz will return from his concussion for Week 15. Burton caught five of six targets for 71 yards and two touchdowns against the Rams Sunday, and his schedule is much more favorable the rest of the way, even with Nick Foles throwing him the football. $50
Blake Bortles, QB, JAX (34%) – I feel like I am adding insult to injury by recommending Carson Wentz’s fantasy owners pick up Blake Bortles, but I don’t feel like I have much of a choice considering his weapons. Bortles has thrown for at least 250 yards and two touchdowns in each of his last two games, and he could keep the streak going against the Texans and 49ers. $10
New Orleans Saints DEF (37%) – I still believe in the Saints defense—more than most, it appears—but this could wind up being a fantastic matchup if Josh McCown cannot play through his broken left hand. Any defense facing Bryce Petty deserves a long look. $10
Dede Westbrook, WR, JAX (30%) – I remain shocked Westbrook’s ownership is so low considering the hype prior to his activation from IR. Westbrook isn’t playable if Allen Hurns ever returns, but like Bortles, Westbrook has great matchups the next two weeks. $20
12-Team Leagues
Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, SF (20%) – Garropolo has thrown for at least 293 yards in each of his starts with the 49ers, though he has just one total touchdown in those games. I don’t have high expectations against the Titans Week 15, but he probably won’t hurt you, which is more than I can say for any of the other quarterbacks available in deep leagues. $5
Eric Ebron, TE, DET (29%) – I dropped Eric Ebron for Stephen Anderson last week in a 16-team PPR league. Yes, I feel pretty dumb. Ebron will almost certainly disappoint this week, but that is true of most tight ends. Ebron does have at least four catches in four straight games, so there appears to be a decent floor there. $3
Atlanta Falcons DEF (18%) – Atlanta has allowed more than 23 points in a game just once this season, and they held the Buccaneers to 20 points in Week 12. Jameis Winston is always a candidate to take ill-timed sacks and throw multiple interceptions, and Atlanta is certainly capable of taking advantage of the matchup. $5
Wayne Gallman, RB, NYG (3%) – It never really made much sense for the Giants to give Orleans Darkwa (or Shane Vereen) so many more touches than Wayne Gallman. Gallman led the Giants backs in rushing attempts, targets and receptions Sunday, and he could be useful for the rest of the season if that usage continues. $10
14+ Team Leagues
Nick Foles, QB, PHI (2%) – The Eagles are at the Giants this week and then host Oakland and Dallas to finish the season. There is not a single good defense on that list, which is why Foles gets the nod ahead of T.J. Yates and DeShone Kizer. Foles has a lot of solid weapons, especially if Zach Ertz is healthy, though Philadelphia will probably rely more on the running game than it has to this point. $20
Adam Shaheen, TE, CHI (1%) – Shaheen had the best game of his brief NFL career Sunday, catching four of five targets for 44 yards and a touchdown against the Bengals. The Bears face Detroit and Cleveland the next two weeks, and there is a chance Shaheen can repeat that production in one or both of those games. $4
Miami Dolphins DEF (7%) – Miami’s defense has scored 20 fantasy points twice this season, but they combined for 32 fantasy points in their other 10 games heading into Monday night. Buffalo’s offense is not scary regardless, but this is a much better matchup if Nathan Peterman or Joe Webb get the start at quarterback. $3
Matt Breida, RB, SF (5%) – Breida has 12 carries in each of his last two games, though it was a bit curious to see him shut out of the passing game Sunday. There is no indication the 49ers plan to give Breida more work than Hyde at any point this season, but there has been plenty for both in recent weeks. $2
Kendall Wright, WR, CHI (4%) – While the Bengals’ defense probably deserves much more credit for Kendall Wright’s 20.7 fantasy points in PPR scoring Sunday, Wright did display impressive hands on a couple of his receptions. I don’t trust him, but you could do worse for a dart throw in a deep league. $3
