Cam Whitmore DFS Picks: SG, Houston Rockets
Whitmore is an absolute bucket and while, like every rookie, he has had his ups and downs this season, the one thing we do know is that when he gets on the floor he is out there to shoot and out there to shoot from three-point range.
Last night the Rockets rookie played 24 minutes, taking eight three-pointers and while he only made two of those eight, those two are enough as his projection tonight is set at 1.5. Whitmore has finished with more than 1.5 three-pointers in nine of his last 10 games while shooting 39.4% from three-point range this season.
The Phoenix Suns are not a great defensive team, especially when it comes to their perimeter defense and I’m looking for the rookie to be aggressive on the offensive end here today.
- Pick: Higher than 1.5 3PM (0.85x)
Anthony Edwards DFS Picks: SG, Minnesota Timberwolves
We attack Bucks backcourt as often as possible so why would that trend end today? Edwards plays the entire first quarter for the Timberwolves which is exactly what we are looking for when it comes to targeting a player's first quarter point projection, which for Edwards is set at 7.5 points this evening.
In the lone meeting between these two teams, Edwards scored nine first quarter points in what was an eventual blowout win by the Timberwolves in Milwaukee. This game is being played in Minnesota fresh off the All-Star break and I’m looking for the All-Star Anthony Edwards to show out with a top performance this evening.
- Pick: Higher than 7.5 1Q Points
Player News
Josh Hart led the Knicks with 24 points (7-of-15 FGs), seven rebounds, two assists and five three-pointers in a 127-102 loss to the Celtics in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Things didn’t start off well for Hart. He got hit right above his eye on an elbow from Luke Kornet, which resulted in a lot of blood on his face and uniform. He got cleaned up and was given a new jersey, and it didn’t impact his shot. It wasn’t enough for New York to wrap up the series, and they’ll head home for Game 6 on Friday. This was Hart’s highest-scoring performance of the postseason, and his most points in a game since before the All-Star break. He’ll look to carry some of this shooting success with him to Madison Square Garden.
OG Anunoby struggled on Wednesday and finished with just six points (1-of-12 FGs), eight rebounds, two assists, one block and one three-pointer in Game 5 against the Celtics.
It has been a hit-or-miss series for Anunoby. He had 29 points in Game 1 and 20 points in Game 4. He scored a total of 13 points in Games 2, 3 and 5. Which Anunoby shows up in Game 6 could be critical for New York’s chances of closing this series out at home. Of course, they’d much prefer to end things in New York than to have to travel back to Boston for Game 7. Simply put, Anunoby is going to have to be much better on Friday.
Mitchell Robinson provided a boost off the bench with eight points (1-of-3 FGs, 6-of-6 FTs), 13 rebounds, two steals and one block in Game 5 against the Celtics on Wednesday.
Karl-Anthony Towns found himself in foul trouble in the first half, which opened the door for Robinson to take on more minutes early in this game. Robinson has been effective, which is why the Celtics have turned to the Hack-a-Mitch method to try and get him out of the game. Well, it doesn’t work when he turns into Steve Nash. Robinson will continue to be an important piece for New York in this series, though it is unlikely that he continues to have this type of success at the free throw line.
Jaylen Brown turned in a strong line on Wednesday with 26 points (9-of-17 FGs, 5-of-8 FTs), eight rebounds, 12 assists, one steal and three three-pointers in Game 5 against the Knicks.
Brown is the other All-NBA player on the roster, and with Jayson Tatum (Achilles) done for the season, Boston needed to turn to Brown. He took advantage and was fantastic as both a scorer and a facilitator. Tatum had been Boston’s leader in assists in both the regular season and the playoffs, which is an underrated aspect of his game that the Celtics will miss. If Brown continues to dominate on offense like he did in this game Boston, will have a legitimate chance to win this series, even without Tatum.
Luke Kornet started the second half on Wednesday and contributed 10 points (5-of-5 FGs), nine rebounds, one assist, one steal and seven blocks in Game 5 against the Knicks.
Kristaps Porzingis got the starting nod in place of Jayson Tatum (Achilles), but Kornet replaced him to start the second half. Porzingis didn’t end up seeing the floor after the break, while Kornet played a significant role in helping Boston take over the game. Porzingis has struggled mightily during this series, and there were reports that he is having stamina issues. He only had one points, one rebound and one block in 12 minutes on Wednesday. It’s unclear if Kornet will start in Game 6 on Friday, but he has clearly at least earned more playing time.
Derrick White led the Celtics with 34 points (9-of-16 FGs, 9-of-11 FTs), three rebounds, two assists, three blocks and seven three-pointers in a 127-102 win over the Knicks in Game 5 on Wednesday.
In the wake of Jayson Tatum’s Achilles tear, Boston needed someone to step up on the offensive end. White filled the void with his highest-scoring performance of the postseason and his most points in a game since early March. White struggled in the first two games of this series but has made at least 50 percent of his shots in each of his last three games. He has been able to fill whatever role the Celtics have needed him to fill since he was traded to Boston, and he should continue to be a primary scoring option for them as they head to New York for Game 6.
