Jaylen Brown Sleeper NBA Pick: More Than 6.5 1Q Points
The Celtics forward has been one of the team’s most consistent scorers this postseason, averaging 23.4 points in their five-game series against the Cavaliers and 22.8 points in their five-game series against the Heat.
Part of his elite scoring has been his ability to take over in the first quarter, setting the tone of the Celtics offense, and this Pacers matchup should be no different. Brown found a ton of success against this Pacers team this season, averaging 28.4 points per game while shooting 60% from the field in their five matchups.
With the playoffs here, we know Brown is going to play the majority of the first quarter and over the last five games, Brown is averaging 7.2 first quarter points. Brown’s point projection for this matchup is set at 6.5 1Q points which is a number we should see him go over given the success he has had in this matchup this season.
- Pick: More than 6.5 1Q Points
Jayson Tatum Sleeper NBA Pick: More Than 9.5 Rebounds
Tatum has been great on the glass this postseason, averaging 10.4 rebounds per game with double-digit rebound performances in eight of the 10 games the Celtics have played this postseason.
With Kristaps Porzingis still out of action, the Celtics will need to rely on Tatum to clean up the glass in the front court against a Pacers team that he is averaging 11.0 rebounds per game against this season. His rebound projection for tonight is set at just 9.5 and I’d be expecting the double-digit rebound trend to continue.
- Pick: More than 9.5 rebounds
Aaron Nesmith Sleeper NBA Pick: More Than 16.5 P+R+A
The Pacers are full of star talent but a breakout player in their rotation this season has been Aaron Nesmith. Nesmith was drafted by the Boston Celtics but was eventually dealt last season as part of a trade package that saw Malcolm Brogdon head to Boston.
The 3-&-D wing has since flourished with his newfound opportunity to play and this season he took full advantage when playing against his former team, averaging 14.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game this season against the Celtics while shooting 50.8% from the floor.
Nesmith is going to have a big task in this series as the primary defender of Jayson Tatum, which means he is going to see plenty of playing time in this series and therefore plenty of opportunities to fill up the box score. We are looking at his Points+Rebounds+Assists projection for this Game 1 matchup, which is set at 16.5. He has eclipsed this total in nine of the 13 games played so far this postseason for the Pacers.
Total Multiplier: 5.3X
