NBA Showdown Playbook December 17: New Orleans Pelicans vs. Phoenix Suns DFS Picks
It is very clear who the superstars are in tonight’s NBA DFS Showdown Slate matchup between the New Orleans Pelicans and Phoenix Suns. While they play different positions, a lot of the focus is going to be on Zion Williamson and Devin Booker. With an over/under of 227.5, there is fair amount of offense expected tonight in what projects to be a close game as the Suns are favored by just three points. Now, let us take a look at some players to target for tonight’s NBA DFS Showdown Slate.
New Orleans Pelicans Injuries
Brandon Ingram – Out
Jose Alvarado – Probable (Ribs)
Phoenix Suns Injuries
Deandre Ayton – Out
Cameron Johnson – Out
Cameron Payne – Out
Jae Crowder – Out
Captain
Zion Williamson, New Orleans Pelicans
To say that Williamson is rolling right now would be an understatement as he is handling, with ease, any all playing time and volume New Orleans gives him. Williamson is now at straight games of at least 25 points, and he is not doing it cheaply either as he is averaging 31.1 points per game in his last five along with 8.4 rebounds and five assists as all facets of his game are clicking. Beside that, Williamson is taking advantage of the 35 minutes per game he is playing.
Devin Booker, Phoenix Suns
I really want to buy into Booker here, and based on the upside, I am not sure we can ignore him, but the shooting really has been rough for him as of late. The volume is not going anywhere, but in his last three games, Booker is shooting just 30.4% from the field overall and 17.4% from three-point territory. At a moment’s notice, Booker can find his rhythm once again, and you are going to want some exposure.
Mikal Bridges, Phoenix Suns
Once we get past Williamson and Booker, I am not sure there is much differentiation in the next tier, so why save a little bit of salary cap space. Bridges is generally a solid player who can score (16.1 points per game) while grabbing some rebounds (5.1) and assists (3.1) to fill out the stat sheet. The Suns have been working through some injuries, but it should be noted that Bridges has scored 27 points in two of his last three games which included Thursday when he made 11 of 18 shots from the field.
Utility
Chris Paul, Phoenix Suns
If Paul is going to turn back the clock and do what he did Thursday on a nightly basis, then he certainly should be in the higher tier, but unfortunately that is not the case any longer. Paul scored 15 points, which is pretty close to his max these days, but it was his 13 assists and seven rebounds that stepped things up a notch. No longer an explosive scorer, Paul still has the ability to come close to a double-double each night.
C.J. McCollum, New Orleans Pelicans
It is going to be all about game flow for McCollum tonight as his value is truly tied to how many shots he takes, and then ultimately makes. He is not a particularly accurate shooter, and while his five rebounds and 5.6 assists per game do give him some level of a floor, McCollum’s offense does fluctuate on a game-by-game basis even if he is a large part of New Orleans’ offense.
Larry Nance, New Orleans Pelicans
Nance has been taking on a larger role for the Pelicans as of late and he is proving to be up to the task. The forward consistently has been hitting the boards, averaging 8.2 rebounds per game in his last five, but while is averaging 10.8 points per game in the same stretch, his game-by-game output has had some fluctuation.
Dart Throw
Jock Landale, Phoenix Suns
While Bismack Biyombo will get the start, it was Landale that was better from a fantasy perspective on Thursday. In 27 minutes of action, Landale finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and he has proven to be capable on the offensive end at other points this season a well.
Landry Shamet, Phoenix Suns
With Booker back in action, Shamet has taken a bit of a backseat, but he still has a role as an offensive threat off the bench. That was not really evident on Thursday as Shamet missed all but one of the seven shots he attempted, but he should see about 20 minutes of playing time once again.
Naji Marshall, Phoenix Suns
Marshall continues to get a fair amount of playing time, around 30 minutes a night, with Brandon Ingram sidelined, and he has hit double figures offensively in four of his last five games. That is good for an average of 13.2 points with 3.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists which works at this price point to fill out your roster.
