Stephen Curry, GSW – There is no better choice for your Showdown MVP than the odds-on favorite to win MVP through the first few weeks of the season. Much like with Paul George in recent Showdown slates, Curry is absolutely carrying the Warrior’s offense through the early part of the season, averaging 28.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.0 stocks (steals + blocks) per night. All that adds up to a neat 53.6 DraftKings points per game, including only one game below 41 points all year. The $17,700 salary is borderline prohibitive, but with several options in the $6,000s, Curry still makes sense.
Miles Bridges, CHA - If you don’t want to spend all the way up for Curry, you can save almost $4,000 and give the MVP spot to the most consistent player on the Hornets this year. Bridges has been between 39 and 54 DK points in each of his last seven games, averaging 23.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.7 stocks per game. The best part about Bridges’ game is the massive minutes on the floor; he is at 36 per game in his last five, which includes three games decided by double-digit points. That four-year, $60 million contract extension he was offered by the Hornets seems a little silly right about now.
Mid Tier
LaMelo Ball, CHA – Ball isn’t exactly mid-tier on this showdown slate, but he is a must in your lineups as a pairing with Curry. He should thrive in this elite game environment that matches up the teams with the third- and fifth-fastest pace scores this season. After a couple sub-par games, Ball bounced back in a nice way, scoring 54.75 DK points per game over his last two, scoring 27 and 30 actual points in those games. The difference has been the shooting. Ball is a combined 22-for-42 from the floor and 9-for-17 in threes in his last two games as more defensive pressure switches to Terry Rozier.
Draymond Green, GSW – Green is often a hit or miss DFS player, but he has certainly been more hit than miss this year. There are only two players in the NBA averaging at least 9.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 7.0 assists: Russell Westbrook and Draymond Green. And Green has actually scored double-digit points in four of his last six while also putting up at least six rebounds and assists in each of those games.
Kelly Oubre, CHA – Who doesn’t love a little revenge narrative thrown into their DFS lineups? Even without that extra motivation for Oubre, he is one of the best sixth-men of the year and produced at least 31 DK points in three of his last five games. His last one was a dud with only 12 fantasy points, but all that did was suppress his salary to a level below players like Jordan Poole and Mason Plumlee. At just $6,600, Oubre makes a lot of sense in a game with the highest implied total of the night. Oubre should see at least 28 minutes on the floor tonight.
Dart Throws
Cody Martin, CHA – Martin’s time on the court has really been ramping up lately, and the $3,800 salary just hasn’t caught up with his production yet. He has played at least 27 minutes in three of four games and scored at least 25 DK points in each of them. Even with Terry Rozier back in action, Martin played 27 minutes in a close, three-point contest on Monday. Martin has at least five combined rebounds and assists in four straight games in addition to 10.1 points per game.
Andre Iguodala, GSW – At a rock-bottom salary of just $1,800, you can know exactly what you are going to get from Igoudala tonight. He has played between 18-25 minutes and scored 16-19 DK points in each of his five games. For less than $2,000, you take that guaranteed production and put the savings towards Curry and all of the Hornets’ studs. If the ball bounces right on defense, Iggy is always capable of a few extra rebounds or steals.
