POINT GUARDS
Player | Team | # Games | Comment |
1) Stephen Curry | GSW | 3 | Always produces and fills up the stat-sheet. |
2) Russell Westbrook | OKC | 4 | Relying on his pull up jumper a lot more this season. |
3) Damian Lillard | POR | 4 | The Blazers backcourt IS the offense. |
4) John Wall | WSH | 4 | A little banged up but always has the ball in his hands thus creating more shot opportunities and pass plays. |
5) Eric Bledsoe | PHX | 4 | The Suns backcourt IS the offense (just like the Blazers). |
6) Kyle Lowry | TOR | 4 | Lowry has been the most consistent scorer and a lot of the plays start and end with him. |
7) Mike Conley | MEM | 4 | The shot selection continues to improve and is playing with more confidence and is not throwing as many cross-court passes. |
8) Reggie Jackson | DET | 4 | Jackson plays on and off the ball very well. When the King of Centers Andre Drummond gets doubled inside, Jackson is good at shifting to the other side of the court. |
9) Isaiah Thomas | BOS | 4 | Thomas is virtually the only consistent weapon on Boston and just when you think he is going to shoot he drives the lane with quickness. |
10) Kemba Walker | CHA | 4 | The Hornets will need to rely on their guards for scoring for another week. They have a very limited inside game without Al Jefferson. |
11) Jarrett Jack | BKN | 3 | As worried as I am about Jack falling into a shooting slump, the Nets are one of the worst shooting trams in the league, especially from outside, and Jack will still get a ton of shot opportunities. |
12) Jeff Teague | ATL | 3 | It is hard to tell what match ups he will be shooting more in, but when his point total is down, he usually makes up for it in other categories. |
13) Elfrid Payton | ORL | 3 | Continues to be reliable with the ball and is responsible for the up-tempo Magic offense. |
14) Deron Williams | DAL | 3 | As long as Williams can stay healthy, he will not only get the playing time, but a lot of shot opportunities. |
15) Michael Carter-Williams | MIL | 4 | (Same as every week). The deal is this: if he can shoot 40 percent or higher from the field he will be very effective and you can see when watching that his confidence goes up and makes better decisions with the ball. |
16) Chris Paul | LAC | 4 | INJURY RISK-Ribs are still hurting and it is unknown when and if he will play this week. |
17) Rajon Rondo | SAC | 2 | The Kings are most successful when on the break and there are not many guards who run the break better than Rondo. |
18) Derrick Rose | CHI | 4 | The Bulls run two types of offenses. 1. Derrick Rose isolation. 2. Look for the open mid-range jumpers. When Rose is in, he gets fed. |
19) Mo Williams | CLE | 2 | Tries to do too much with the ball and gets into trouble in the corner, but has a reliable jumper. |
20) Emmanuel Mudiay | DEN | 2 | Mudiay needs to shoot the ball less. The points will come for him when he is driving the lane or at the free-throw line. If he shoots less, his assist numbers will rise. |
SHOOTING GUARDS
Player | Team | # Games | Comment |
1) James Harden | HOU | 3 | Still is head coach of the Houston Rockets (on the court). Take that how you want to. |
2) Brandon Knight | PHX | 4 | Bledsoe is starting be the defined jump shooter, while Knight tries to take it to the hoop, pass off and then find the open spot on the other side of the court through screens. Very versatile. |
3) Bradley Beal | WSH | 4 | Beal is 100 percent healthy while Mr. Wall is not and we can expect a more aggressive Beal this week. The Wizards will need to bring the ball inside. |
4) C.J. McCollum | POR | 4 | Has an excellent inside pass that should bring his assist total up and has been a reliable mid-range jump-shooter. |
5) Dwyane Wade | MIA | 4 | People forget because of all of the health issues that he has had, but when Wade is healthy, he truly is a No. 1 option (fantasy and reality). |
6) DeMar DeRozan | TOR | 4 | Has been relying more on his mid-range jumper and is starting to play more inside and get the Raptors second chance scoring opportunities. |
7) Jimmy Butler | CHI | 4 | Butler is all over the court and can play multiple positions. Playing time is at his disposal. |
8) Victor Oladipo | ORL | 3 | Making a great impression as why he should be taken seriously as a top guard. When he goes up for a contested lay up or shot, he gets a ton of air and that allows him to alter his shot midway through. |
9) Nicolas Batum | CHA | 4 | The Hornets have no choice but to rely on their outside game because of a decimated front court. Batum has also been rebounding more consistently. |
10) Goran Dragic | MIA | 4 | Dragic looks a ton more comfortable with Wade on the court than off. He can handle spreading the floor but the job of being the on-court primary shooting option. |
11) Kobe Bryant | LAL | 4 | Kobe is playing every game like it is his last. The shots are not falling as consistently, but the opportunities are still there and he certainly takes advantage of them. |
12) Klay Thompson | GSW | 3 | Thompson continues to get his shooting touch back and is a reliable secondary scoring option to the reigning MVP. |
13) Gordon Hayward | UTAH | 3 | Hayward has been spotting up a lot more and it makes his shot rhythm look a ton more on point. He will be needed as a middle-man to get the ball inside with an injured Rudy Gobert. |
14) Joe Johnson | BKN | 3 | The Nets look lost and fail when trying to execute their play often. Johnson is clearly the fall back option if and when these plays are broken up creating more shot opportunities for him. |
15) Trevor Ariza | HOU | 3 | Defense will always get a player more playing time and Ariza has made a career out of his on the ball defense. He also can knock down the open three. |
16) Eric Gordon | NO | 3 | The Pelicans need Gordon and his shot consistency as they continue to get players back in action. |
17) Tyreke Evans | NO | 3 | Evans is back in the mix and is already hogging the ball a ton. It will take him a few more games to get in rhythm, but the shot opportunities will still be there. |
18) Monta Ellis | IND | 3 | Ellis has been running the floor very well and drawing contact. His defense is a bit unreliable and could be held out in close games. |
19) Kevin Martin | MIN | 4 | His shot is hard to contest because of it’s form and has been looking to drive the lane a good amount from the side. |
20) Kyle Korver | ATL | 3 | The quantity of shots that he will get will be forever unknown heading into a game, but the quality will certainly be there. |
SMALL FORWARDS
Player | Team | # Games | Comment |
1) Kevin Durant | OKC | 4 | Durant looks like he is back in full force and his points, minutes and rebounding totals prove it. |
2) LeBron James | CLE | 3 | Always reliable to fill up the stat-sheet and will continue to work the ball more inside. |
3) Paul George | IND | 3 | George is in fact one of the best two-way players in the game and looks good even when he is against a bigger player. |
4) Kawhi Leonard | SAS | 4 | Leonard’s defense should give fantasy owners the return alone and the minutes will always be there. His offense is a tad more unreliable. |
5) Carmelo Anthony | NYK | 4 | Anthony owners need to recognize that the Knicks are actively trying to avoid isolation as much as possible. This could give Anthony less shot opportunities. |
6) Giannis Antetokounmpo | MIL | 4 | Getting a lot of playing time and the Bucks need his lanky foundation and size to block out their opposition’s mid-range attack. He will certainly continue getting a lot of minutes. |
7) DeMarre Carroll | TOR | 4 | When your team is too hurt to go inside, they set up a lot more on the wing and with Carroll being the third scoring option on the floor, he is often open at the wing, while Lowry and DeRozan are being defended at the key. |
8) Thaddeus Young | BKN | 3 | Not only is Young an ultra-reliable defender, but he has shown how good he is at creating his own shots when on the floor, even with multiple players defending him. |
9) Tobias Harris | ORL | 3 | One of the best mid-range players in the league and continues to get the ball more when the pace slows down due to good transition defense from the opposition. |
10) Andrew Wiggins | MIN | 4 | Solid scorer but needs to develop more with his game. Wiggins tries to drive the lane, but then backs off the first sign of the double. Once he learns that he drive through the lane and pass off to an open wing or key player, his assist numbers will go up. |
11) Marcus Morris | DET | 4 | Morris post-game has been much better and he starts right in front of the key. It allows him to make an entry pass and then cut inside for more layup opportunities. |
12) Rudy Gay | SAC | 2 | Gay is at his best when he gets the ball at the top of the key in the middle of the floor, but is very easy to defend without leaving an opening. Two games does not help. |
13) Danilo Gallinari | DEN | 2 | Continues to be the Nuggets' top shooter and scoring option, but does not have many games to show it and will need to rely less on his shot and more on his driving game. |
14) Al-Farouq Aminu | POR | 4 | Tries so hard to post and drive the lane and is never afraid to draw contact. Aminu plays more aggressively than the Blazers Center’s. |
15) Jae Crowder | BOS | 4 | Crowder’s defense is very reliable and that will keep him in games, but it is hard to tell how many shot opportunities he will get. |
16) Khris Middleton | MIL | 4 | Middleton has been camping out more inside in recent weeks and is doing a good job at getting the ball and passing out if he can’t go up with the shot. |
17) Ersan Ilyasova | DET | 4 | If Marcus Morris plays more inside (as he has been), expect more open shots for Ilyasova. At this time he is not in danger of losing playing time. |
18) Jeff Green | MEM | 4 | Green will always be in the game because of his great perimeter defense and has been rebounding and defends the post quite well. |
19) Wesley Matthews | DAL | 3 | If he can find a way to create a post-game, he will become the second inside scoring option to Dirk Nowitzki. If he camps out at the key, he will get no action. |
20) Chandler Parsons | DAL | 3 | Please, I beg you! DRIVE THE LANE MORE! The Mavs have enough shooters. Throw off your defender by taking it to the house. |
POWER FORWARDS
Player | Team | # Games | Comment |
1) Anthony Davis | NO | 3 | Still a top option, even with only three games. |
2) Blake Griffin | LAC | 4 | With Chris Paul ailing the Clippers will need to go inside more and Griffin has a great post-game. |
3) Greg Monroe | MIL | 4 | Monroe is being utilized properly and has been getting double-double’s because of it. |
4) LaMarcus Aldridge | SAS | 4 | The Spurs continue to let Aldridge create from the elbow and will always get a consistent amount of plays on offense. |
5) Kevin Love | CLE | 3 | Love’s rebounding stats have been very reliable and has done a great job of not only shooting the ball well, but following his shot inside. |
6) Derrick Favors | UTAH | 4 | Favors IS the one reliable inside-offensive weapon on the Jazz with Rudy Gobert out. |
7) Paul Millsap | ATL | 3 | Millsap has timed his jumps right when fighting for rebounds and that continues to help his overall game. |
8) Chris Bosh | MIA | 4 | Bosh needs to rely on his long range jumper more. With Hassan Whiteside being specifically a low-block presence. That is how he will score close to 20 each game. |
9) Kristaps Porzingis | NYK | 4 | Porzingis has been a reliable double-double machine and has been the one player who has been able to relieve the Knicks of “All Melo, all the time” style of basketball. |
10) Pau Gasol | CHI | 4 | The Bulls coaching staff has certainly listened to Gasol’s critiques of his utilization and he has been fed in the post more. |
11) Zach Randolph | MEM | 4 | Not only is Randolph one of the most reliable rebounders in the game, but he also is one of the best at positioning himself for offensive rebounds. |
12) Tim Duncan | SAS | 4 | Duncan has not been as dominant on the scoring front, but has still been rebounding and blocking consistently. |
13) Dirk Nowitzki | DAL | 3 | Still is as involved in the offense as he has always been. Nowtizki has been one of the best pull-up shooters in the game. |
14) Draymond Green | GSW | 3 | Does he have the ability to post up, shoot and drive the ball? Yes! Can he take over the game like his teammate Steph Curry? No! It is hard to be ultra-involved in the offense when the best shooter in the game is your teammate. |
15) Serge Ibaka | OKC | 4 | I say it every week: take anything he does offensively as a bonus. (No different this week). |
16) Markieff Morris | PHX | 4 | With Tyson Chandler hurting, Morris has been the dominant paint player on offense. He post’s up and either passes off and sets an immediate inside screen, or spins to the left and takes it himself. Both ways work for him. |
17) Marvin Williams | CHA | 4 | Williams has to be the catalyst inside with Al Jefferson out and has been posting up more and playing aggressively. |
18) Jared Sullinger | BOS | 4 | Sullinger is very reliable defensively as rebounding is his main source of production. As long as he stays out of foul trouble he should produce. He needs to calm down when he gets the ball on offense and not try to bulldoze his way inside. |
19) Nikola Mirotic | CHI | 4 | Has a very consistent long-range jumper and his shot opportunities are out of his control because of the shooters the Bulls have. |
20) Kenneth Faried | DEN | 2 | Raw offensively, but excellent at keeping plays alive and rebounding. |
CENTERS
Player | Team | # Games | Comment |
1) Andre Drummond | DET | 4 | Continues to be the most dominant Center in the league this season. |
2) Al Horford | ATL | 3 | Always a good option who gets the ball both inside and out and is doing a great job creating. |
3) Marc Gasol | MEM | 4 | Needs to rely on his shot more and post-game less (as strange as it sounds). If Memphis can get Gasol the ball immediately at the key, he will likely be open more and has a great long range jumper. |
4) DeAndre Jordan | LAC | 4 | Major help in rebounds and will have to show what he can do in the post more because with Chris Paul hurting, the passes inside will be less fancy and more direct. He almost signed with the Mavs because he wanted more offensive involvement. HERE’S YOUR CHANCE BIG GUY! |
5) Nikola Vucevic | ORL | 3 | If he is running the floor on transition and is one of the first guys down the court his point total will be much higher, but he is just not as quick. He is still an excellent post player and hard to defend once the entry pass is made. |
6) Karl-Anthony Towns | MIN | 4 | Excellent scorer inside and out and his opposition does not seem to understand that he can pull up and not have a defender in sight. |
7) Brook Lopez | BKN | 3 | Continues to shoot well from the outside, but needs to play inside more on both ends of the court. |
8) Hassan Whiteside | MIA | 4 | Continues to rebound well and be the primary low block presence on both sides of the ball. |
9) DeMarcus Cousins | SAC | 2 | Always a reliable option, but has a short week this week. |
10) Dwight Howard | HOU | 3 | Always reliable when it comes to rebounding and blocks and is hard player to defend inside. The Rockets are still letting him have rest games and that certainly impacts fantasy production. |
11) Ryan Anderson | NO | 3 | Anderson has been scoring a ton this year and has been left open a ton from the outside (where he is most lethal). Anderson has developed a minor inside game and does call for the ball in the high post and that helps him get even more time with the ball. |
12) Tristan Thompson | CLE | 3 | Has been a major help and good low-block player who does not get caught in the paint because of Kevin Love playing more outside the paint. |
13) Marcin Gortat | WSH | 4 | RISK: He has taken a leave for personal reason’s and is expected to be active Wednesday and the Wizards have a really banged up frontcourt. |
14) Jahlil Okafor | PHI | 4 | The suspension is over and it is time to see if Okafor has learned his lesson about balance. The 76ers plan on getting the ball to him quickly inside before the defense settles and will need to use his quick post moves. This could mean more shot opportunities. |
15) Zaza Pachulia | DAL | 3 | Pachulia is the Mavs' inside presence and with no other player working the paint, he is able to position himself to get secondary scoring opportunities. |
16) Nerlens Noel | PHI | 4 | Does not look 100 percent healthy and the Sixers are switching up their frontcourt. It is hard to tell what his involvement in the offense will be. |
17) Andrew Bogut | GSW | 3 | Bogut is not really a jumper, but his size and stamina make it hard to box him out inside. |
18) Enes Kanter | OKC | 4 | Kanter does not take advantage of his shot as much but has been seeing success inside. It is hard to tell whether or not he will be in the game and get the ball anywhere outside of the paint. |
19) Gorgui Dieng | MIN | 4 | Dieng is an inside presence and gets the playing due to a hurt frontcourt. He can be relied on for blocks and rebounds and a little for scoring. |
20) Mason Plumlee | POR | 4 | Always aggressive inside. It is hard for him to convert if he’s six feet away from the basket, but always finds a way to get the ball. |
