Lakers vs. Timberwolves Predictions For Tonight NBA Playoffs Game 3, 4/25
Labeling a Game 2 as a must-win seems a bit dramatic, but even if that was the fact is that we have a 1-1 series. This time, it was the Lakers defense that was perhaps the most impressive unit.
That was the case for Minnesota coming out of Game 1, which is what LA head coach JJ Reddick was most fearful of. While the Lakers stepped it up in that department, we may be in for a low-scoring series in general. Coming out victorious is always the goal, but even LA fans shouldn’t feel like world-beaters after Tuesday night, as they still failed to score 100 points.
Therefore, the Lakers vs. Timberwolves odds have shifted quite a bit with the total ticking down to just 206.5 points! With that in mind, along with the fact that we see either team able to come out on top tonight, the best bet from our Lakers vs. Timberwolves predictions is going to be on a player prop market.
Los Angeles Lakers: Luka Comes Out Hot…Again
So much was made about Luka Doncic’s dominance of the Timberwolves in last year’s Western Conference Finals with the Dallas Mavericks. After Game 1 of this series, we highlighted how his lightning start made him look like where he left off thanks to 16 points in the first quarter alone.
Well, it’s safe to say that he didn’t hold back in Game 2, either. You can quickly see that Luka Doncic was just one assist shy of a triple-double, but that’s par for the course for him. What was perhaps even more impressive was scoring or assisting on 20 of the 34 points that the Lakers scored in the first quarter.
Minnesota Timberwolves: Overconfident From Game 1
While Luka lighting it up for back-to-back games has us focused there when it comes to the discussions coming out of LA, when it comes to Minnesota, the storyline is quite the opposite as Game 1. The series opener had all talks about their three-point barrage thanks to shooting better than 50% from deep.
Well, apparently they let that get to their heads. As remarkable as that performance was, the Timberwolves are not the Boston Celtics; they haven’t earned their way here by hitting the three ball. They must’ve forgotten that, as Minnesota shot just 5-for-25 from three in Game 2, not to mention just 38% shooting overall.
Lakers vs. Timberwolves Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines
As we expected with the series shifting to Minnesota, Anthony Edwards and company are now favored according to the latest Lakers vs. Timberwolves odds:
- Point Spread: Los Angeles Lakers +3 (-110) vs. Minnesota Timberwolves -3 (-110)
- Money Line: Los Angeles Lakers (+125) vs. Minnesota Timberwolves (-150)
- Game Total (Over/Under): Over 206.5 (-110) vs. Under 206.5 (-110)
Lakers vs. Timberwolves Best Bet: Anthony Edwards Over 4.5 Assists (Use For PrizePicks Player Pick ‘Em Lineups)
With how much Luka Doncic has shown out in the first two games, if our Lakers vs. Timberwolves predictions are going to focus on a player prop, surely we’re focused on the newest Laker, right?
Not quite. Actually, not at all - we’re focused on the home team here. It’s still with a superstar, however, as Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards was already drawing comparisons to Micahel Jordan in last year’s postseason. That was largely thanks to his raw scoring ability, but that’s not where we see the most value for Game 3.
By no means are we now drawing comparisons to Magic Johnson by targeting assists - we know that’s not what he’s known for. That said, with this line, we’re not asking for much. After all, we saw Anthony Edwards rack up nine assists in Game 1 of this series.
Of course, the concern is that he didn't have a single one in Game 2, but given that was the loss, it’s quite clear that he knows that isn’t a recipe for success. Furthermore, Edwards has been well aware that when his Timberwolves are facing top competition, he needs to help his teammates thrive.
That’s why we saw him record five assists in the last regular season against the Lakers, and they aren’t the only ones. As for another top team, Edwards recorded eight assists the last time he faced the Denver Nuggets. He also had a three-game stretch recording 20 assists (nearly seven per game) against the Oklahoma City Thunder twice and the Lakers.
We’re not asking for a Luka Doncic triple-double, but we do have Anthony Edwards over 4.5 assists (target more player picks at PrizePicks) as the best bet from our Lakers vs. Timberwolves predictions.
