NASCAR DFS: Foxwoods Casino 301 Track Breakdown

The lone trip to the northeast happens this weekend as the Cup series is the only one on track heading to the Granite State. Loudon, New Hampshire is the host site for the Foxwoods Casino 301 as the Cup cars return to the 750 horsepower package because it’s a one-mile track. The last time they had this package on the cars was the two short track races at Martinsville and Bristol that happened in May over a Wednesday and Sunday combo.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway is a one-mile flat track that is essentially twice the size of Martinsville with slightly wider corners. If you like bump and runs and tight racing, New Hampshire delivers a short track experience at twice the distance and just flashback to last year’s finish for a perfect example of such racing. Passing can be tough here, but still possible with skill and the moves utilized on short tracks.

As far as comp tracks go, Richmond and Phoenix are the ones that work the best because they are the most similar in size and flatness to the “Magic Mile.” The 301 in the race number indicates both the laps and mileage of the race this time and the stages come in at 75 laps, 110 laps, and 116 laps. They are also running the same tire combination that was run at Phoenix earlier in the year before the season was postponed.

Fords and Toyotas have a pretty even split here in the last 10 races with a single Chevy win thrown in the mix.

There have been 48 races in the Cup level at New Hampshire and in that span 52-percent of winners have started in the top-10 starting spots in the grid and an eighth of the winners have started on the pole.

Strategy Notes

Three of the last five races at the “Magic Mile” have seen two drivers lead at least 100 laps apiece while another one had two drivers lead at least 95 laps. So laps led is clearly a key stat to focus on but there’s also place differential which seems odd due to the nature of the track. However, in four of the last five races, at least four drivers to finish in the top-10 have started 14th or further back. Focus on how drivers have done in this package recently this year as well as last year in the 750 horsepower aero package as well.

Core Drivers By Tier

Tier 1 - Kevin Harvick

• Harvick has three wins here in the last five races and all of them came from at least P14 in the starting grid.

• He has six top-fives in the last eight races and is fourth in Driver Rating

• Over the last five races this season, Harvick has by far the best average finish in the field at 3.2 despite starting further back in the field most of those races.

Tier 2 - Aric Almirola

• It’s getting harder to believe that Almirola doesn’t have dirt on someone given how many up front starting spots he’s getting, but here’s that a major benefit.

• The pole-sitter has an ability to lead a ton of laps here and the last five haven’t finished outside the top-10.

• He’s been very fast and nearly a lock to finish top-five each race since the restart.

Tier 3 - Matt Kenseth

• Kenseth is great here and has a few wins under his belt at this flat track.

• In the three races he’s run here he has two top-fives.

• He’s also posted a 7.4 average PD mark in that span as well and picking tracks he’s been good at in the past in his return has been great DFS strategy to this point.

Contrarian - Alex Bowman

• Bowman has started to figure out this track the last couple of races here.

• The car has been fast through the first half of races and then fades so he needs to put together a full race.

• There are also rumors that he is heading to the 48-car next year so the pressure is on to perform.

Fade - Bubba Wallace

• Wallace has started to cool off some of late and now comes to a track that hasn’t been great for him in the past.

• Starting where he risks him going backward quite a bit.

• The 15th starting spot has also not been great at New Hampshire.
