MLB DFS Value Vault September 10: Corbin Carroll Is Too Cheap On DraftKings
Tonight’s main slate begins a bit earlier on Yahoo compared to FanDuel and DraftKings, but there is a game at Coors, so we have to pay attention to game stack there with José Ureña and Madison Bumgarner as the scheduled starters. Jack Flaherty seems underpriced with a good matchup against Pittsburgh, and José Urquidy gets to face the Angels, and we all know how lucrative that can be. To round out your MLB DFS lineups this evening, check out our daily projections, Vegas odds, and weather center for all things MLB DFS. Without further ado, here are my favorite value plays for your MLB DFS lineups for the main slate on Saturday, September 10.
MLB DFS Value Pitchers
Jack Flaherty, STL ($8,200 FD/$6,900 DK/$34 Yahoo) - Sign me up for Flaherty today, ladies and gents! In his return to the mound against Washington, he threw 91 pitches, so he’s capable of handling a full workload against Pittsburgh today. The Pirates have the second-highest strikeout rate against right-handed pitching over the last two weeks, and the team’s .640 OPS is the seventh-lowest during the aforementioned span. The price point on DraftKings is irresistible if you ask me.
José Urquidy, HOU ($9,000 DK) - Similarly to Flaherty, Urquidy is in a great matchup, as the Angels have the fifth-highest strikeout rate against righties over the last two weeks, and Los Angeles has the eighth-lowest OPS. Urquidy has a 3.06 ERA at home this year, and his strikeout rate at home is over seven percentage points higher than his mark on the road! Urquidy just dominated the Angels in his last start, and against this Los Angeles team in 2022, he’s a perfect 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA, 0.78 WHIP, and a strikeout per inning.
MLB DFS Value Hitters
Josh Jung, TEX ($2,200 FD/$2,000 DK/$14 Yahoo) - After an injury delayed his season, Jung crushed the ball in the minors, and upon his promotion to the big league, he made his presence felt, going 2-for-4 with a home run and a stolen base. Kevin Gausman is far better on the road than in his home park, but he has some reverse splits, and righties have a .294 average and .326 wOBA against him this season. The price point is super affordable on FanDuel and DraftKings, but he can be deployed on Yahoo as well.
Gio Urshela, MIN ($2,100 FD/$3,000 DK/$11 Yahoo) - Urshela is 6-for-11 with two home runs in his career against Cleveland’s Triston McKenzie, and the veteran infielder has picked things up of late, hitting .333 with a .389 SLG over his last three contests. Urshela has a .733 OPS and .153 ISO against right-handed pitching this season, not to mention a .744 OPS and 114 wRC+ at home in 2022.
TJ Friedl, CIN ($3,000 FD/$2,700 DK) & Jake Fraley, CIN ($2,700 FD/$3,000 DK) - Death, taxes, and lefties against Adrian Houser. At similar price points, you can use both of these guys, and here are the things that you need to know for both of these guys in this matchup:
- Friedl is hitting .396 with an .875 SLG over his last 14 games, and he has a .788 OPS against righties. Yes, Friedl has excelled against lefties, but you can use him against righties with little concern.
- Fraley is hitting .342 with a .632 SLG over his last 12 games, and this season, he has a .915 OPS ang .268 ISO against right-handed pitching. He’s a must start against righties, especially one that struggles with left-handed hitters.
Tommy Edman, STL ($3,200 FD) - Edman is priced a bit too high to include here on the Value Vault, but on FanDuel, use him as you wish! During his 12-game hit streak, Edman is hitting .413 with an .826 SLG, thanks fto four home runs, and seven doubles during this stretch. JT Brubaker has allowed a .273 average and .323 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season, and Edman has a .286 average against Brubaker for his career.
UPDATE: Edman is not starting.
Tyler O’Neill, STL ($3,100 FD) - I don’t know if I can trust O’Neill in cash games, but I’ll throw him in some GPPs. He’s 4-for-10 with two home runs against Pittsburgh’s JT Brubaker, and the Pittsburgh righty has a 4.92 ERA and 1.42 WHIP at home this season. There are some weather concerns here, but O’Neill is looking to end the year on a high note, and he’s starting to make more hard contact, which would play well against Brubaker and the Pirates.
Corbin Carroll, ARI ($2,800 DK) - This game is at Coors, and Carroll is only $2,800 on DraftKings. THANK YOU, DRAFTKINGS! Carroll gets to face off against José Ureña, who stinks and has allowed a .308 average and .298 wOBA to left-handed hitters. Carroll has a .391 average, 1.201 OPS, and .348 ISO against right-handed pitching in the bigs this season. He’s homered in back-to-back games, and has hit safely in all but two of his first nine games at the highest level. Expect high ownership on Carroll this evening.
Update: Carroll isn’t starting for Arizona.
Vaughn Grissom, ATL ($3,300 FD/$3,200 DK) - George Kirby has reverse splits, and Grissom has solid numbers against right-handed pitching, highlighted by a .324 average, .893 OPS, and 148 wRC+. Over his last seven games, Grissom has a .400/.464/.720 slash line with a .495 wOBA, and 221 wRC+. Kirby has a 3.42 ERA and .281 BAA at home this season.
