Jordan Lawlar is expected to miss at least a week for Triple-A Reno after leaving Thursday’s game with a hamstring injury.
Lawlar is one of the game’s very best prospects, but his frequent injuries are a cause for concern. If he can stay healthy, he could have some mixed-league value over the final two months should the Diamondbacks opt to sell and trade Eugenio Suárez.
Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters after Thursday’s game that Griffin Canning may have suffered an Achilles injury.
Mendoza noted that while they’re still awaiting the results of Canning’s MRI exam, the expectation is that he suffered a major Achilles injury. It’s a devastating blow to the Mets and for the 29-year-old right-hander who has resurrected his career in his first season with the ballclub. Look for the Mets to provide another update on his status as soon as the results of that MRI exam are available.
Braves’ manager Brian Snitker confirmed on Thursday that rookie right-hander Didier Fuentes will take his next turn in the club’s starting rotation next week.
Fuentes has been rocked in his first two starts, posting a miserable 10.80 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and a 4/1 K/BB ratio across 8 1/3 innings to begin his big league career. He’ll take the ball on Tuesday against the Angels and is not a recommended streaming option for fantasy purposes.
Pete Alonso went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the Mets triumphed over the Braves 4-0 on Thursday evening in New York.
The 30-year-old slugger came through with a two-out RBI single off of Grant Holmes in the fifth inning that extended the Mets’ lead to 2-0. He also doubled off of Dylan Dodd in the seventh inning and scored on a two-run single off the bat of Jeff McNeil. With his three-hit attack, Alonso is now hitting a robust .292/.384/.549 with 18 homers and 65 RBI on the season.

Austin Warren picked up his first victory as a member of the Mets on Thursday, working 2 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball against the Braves.
Warren was pressed into emergency action in the third inning after Griffin Canning exited with a left ankle injury. He allowed just one hit during his time in the ballgame while recording a pair of strikeouts. The 29-year-old hurler has now fired 3 1/3 scoreless innings in two appearances for the Mets this season while posting a 3/1 K/BB ratio.
