Max Fried Underdog MLB Pick: Higher Than 5.5 Strikeouts

The Yankees spent big money this offseason revamping their rotation when they signed Max Fried in free agency. The southpaw was a bit shaky in his season debut, though not all his own fault, as he allowed six runs (two earned) over 4.2 innings while striking out four against the Brewers.

The strikeouts are what we are looking to target here today as he draws an easier matchup against a Pirates team that has a 25% strikeout rate on the season and in a VERY SMALL sample size has a 46% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching.

Yes, that number won’t be that high all year but if Fried can control this game he should be able to finish with more than the 5.5 strikeout mark this afternoon.

 

 

 

Brandon Pfaadt Underdog MLB Pick: Higher Than 5.5 Strikeouts

Speaking of strikeouts, we are very bullish on Diamondbacks righty Brandon Pfaadt this season. Though his overall numbers were just average last season, his underlying metrics were fantastic and today he draws a matchup against a Washington Nationals team that has a 30% strikeout rate on the season.

Pfaadt is a decent strikeout pitcher, and this is looking like it may be a premium strikeout matchup for pitchers this season when they face Washington.
