With Game 3 of the World Series being delayed, things were shuffled around a bit as the Phillies are now sending Ranger Suárez to the hill and he was supposed to pitch in Game 4. The Astros are still sending Lance McCullers Jr. out to the mound in a 1-1 series as Game 3 is taking place in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Houston Astros

Moneyline: HOU -122

O/U: 7.5

Captain/MVP

Lance McCullers Jr., Houston Astros

McCullers only pitched in eight regular season games, but he was lights out in them, pitching to a 2.30 ERA with 63 strikeouts across 58.2 innings of work. He made one start against the Phillies and he was great, firing six innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts. McCullers offers the more upside of the two pitchers taking the mound tonight.

Jose Altuve, Houston Astros

With Ranger Suárez taking the mound, we know Jose Altuve has mashed left-handed pitching his entire career and there has been no different this year. Altuve has a .319 ISO and a .451 wOBA against lefties this year. Altuve is riding a four-game hitting streak including three hits in Game 2.

Jeremy Peña, Houston Astros

Pena has been tremendous this entire postseason and he has a .619 SLG% and a .921 OPS. He’s belted three home runs and has five doubles through nine games. Pena hit lefties well this year with a .207 ISO and a .344 wOBA. Pena is excellent salary relief at the captain spot while still having a massive upside.

Utility

Rhys Hoskins, Philadelphia Phillies

Hoskins was much better at home this year, slashing .266/.355/.562 in Philly, compared to .219/.298/.375 on the road. Righties were FAR better against McCullers this season, slashing .258/.303/.409 against him, compared to the putrid .165/.302/.253 line that lefties “produced.” McCullers has also been worse on the road this year and that’s been a theme his whole career as he has a 4.43 ERA on the road in his career, compared to 2.67 at home.

J.T. Realmuto, Philadelphia Phillies

I like J.T. Realmuto for a lot of the same reasons that I like Hoskins (as far as this matchup with McCullers goes), but he has some other benefits as well; he is slashing .289/.357/.553 over his last 10 games with three dingers. He was also way better at home this year too, slashing .315/.375/.549, compared to .236/.313/.407 on the road.

Chas McCormick, Houston Astros

It’s been a breakout postseason for the Houston Astros outfielder Chas McCormick as he’s hitting .367 with a 1.086 OPS over his last 10 games. He’s homered twice and crushed lefties this year, with a .223 ISO and a .409 wOBA.
Brandon Marsh, Philadelphia Phillies
Marsh, being an Angel for the majority of the season, has seen McCullers more than anyone besides Segura and he is a solid 3-9 (.333) against him to this point. The only other reason besides the BvP data to consider Marsh today is for his extremely cheap price tag.
