Frankie Montas, SP Cincinnati Reds

  • More than 4.5 Strikeouts

While Montas hasn’t recorded more than 4.5 strikeouts in most of his outings this season, he pinched out seven Diamondbacks in his return from the IL his last time out and looked a lot more like the guys who opened the season than the one who was trying to pitch through a bruised forearm. The San Francisco Giants have a weak .299 wOBA with a 23.3-percent strikeout rate over the past week and they’ve posted very similar numbers against righties this season. Montas should go at least six innings in this outing and hit our mark for us.

Kyle Hendricks, SP Chicago Cubs

  • More than 4.5 Hits Allowed

Have you ever watched a more hittable pitcher than Hendricks? The guy is sitting with a 2.10 WHIP on the season and continues to watch base-runners circle him like he’s at the center of a carousel. The Pirates found a real nice groove yesterday, plating 10 runs on 11 hits, and should carry that momentum into today’s action.

 

 

Michael Soroka, SP Chicago White Sox

  • Less than 3.5 Strikeouts

Soroka has a brutal 6.34 ERA with a 1.59 WHIP and pitches to way too much contact. He’s never been a big strikeout guy, but a 4.70 K/9 should tell you all you need to know.  He did fan four Guardians when he faced them back in April, but Cleveland is fanning less than 20-percent of the time against righties this season so we’ll look for Soroka to lean where he’s been for five of his eight starts this season.
