This was yet another brutal weekend in terms of injuries to impact players.  Arguably the most significant season-ending injury to a player took place on Sunday so fantasy owners will need to figure out a way to overcome such adversity.  So without further ado, here is the next edition of the fantasy football walking wounded.

Le’veon Bell (RB – PIT)

When you are talking about catastrophic injuries, this one has to be at the top of the list.  Bell was suspended the first couple games of the season but was still a consensus top three draft pick heading into the season.  He performed exceptionally well when he came back but sustained a torn MCL against Cincinnati and will be placed on season-ending injured reserve.  DeAngelo Williams will once again replace him which makes him a priority to acquire on the waiver wire.

Calvin Johnson (WR – DET)

Megatron suffered an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of the Lions’ blowout loss against the Chiefs.  He did not return after trying to work it out on the sideline but there does not appear to be cause for concern at this point.  Detroit will have its bye next week so Johnson will have plenty of time to rest up and recover before returning in Week 10.

Matt Forte (RB – CHI)

Forte appears to be dealing with an MCL injury and may be out for a couple weeks depending on the severity.  We should know more during the week but the initial thought is that his status for next Monday night is in serious jeopardy.  If Forte is unable to go then his handcuff Jeremy Langford would get the start and should be targeted on the waiver wire.

Keenan Allen (WR – SD)

Allen left the game on Sunday after catching a touchdown pass and has been diagnosed with back spasms.  He will have an extra day of rest with the Chargers playing next Monday night so he should be able to get back on the field.  Monitor his status throughout the week because Allen will certainly be a WR1 option with a favorable matchup against the Bears next week.

Brandon Marshall (WR – NYJ)

Marshall had 18 targets against Oakland but also was dealing with multiple injuries which forced him in and out of the game.  He will likely undergo some additional tests on his injured toe which coincides with an ankle injury as well.  Keep a close eye on his status during the week because he is a solid WR2 depending on who is quarterback for the Jets next week.

Carlos Hyde (RB – SF)

Hyde has a stress fracture in his foot that he has been playing through but the 49ers held him out of this week’s game against St. Louis.  It seems like they may hold him out next week as well with a possible target of returning after the team’s bye in Week 10.  Hyde has been brought back to earth after his huge Week 1 performance and can now sit comfortably on your bench for the next few weeks.

Steve Smith Sr. (WR – BAL)

Smith was having a great season at age 36 amongst speculation that he would retire at the end of the year.  However, he suffered a torn right Achilles tendon during the Ravens’ win over San Diego which will end his season.  Smith can be dropped in all leagues and now the focus goes on Kamar Aiken who will step in as Baltimore’s new No. 1 wide receiver.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB – NYJ)

The Jets could be in trouble as Fitzpatrick suffered torn ligaments in his left thumb which could cost him significant time.  He did have to come back in the game against Oakland late in the fourth quarter after Geno Smith got injured, but Fitzpatrick looked to be in some serious discomfort.  If the Jets need to find a quarterback off the scrap heap it will have a detrimental trickle-down effect on the rest of their offensive players.

Larry Donnell (TE – NYG)

Donnell sustained a neck injury at some point during the Giants' loss to the Saints on Sunday.  He was carted to the back during the game which is not a good sign.  Donnell is only a TE2 option because he is so inconsistent.  If he misses any time then Will Tye will get the most snaps in his place, but he is not a viable fantasy option either.
