This is the de facto halfway point of the fantasy football season as most leagues start their playoffs after Week 13. Once again the injury bug has reared its ugly head costing a star player the season and limiting other valuable players in their performances. Trade deadlines are fast approaching so now is the time to be aggressive and make whatever moves you need to in order to set yourself up for the stretch run. So without further adieu, here is the next edition of the gridiron walking wounded.
Arian Foster (RB – HOU)
Once again the injury bug has bitten Arian Foster, and this time it is extremely serious…again. Foster suffered a torn Achilles during Houston’s debacle against Miami and he is now done for the season. His future is in serious doubt as this is a major injury for an aging and beaten up running back to come back from. Foster can be dropped in all formats and he will enter 2016 again as a significant risk.
Ben Roethlisberger (QB – PIT)
Roethlisberger is on track to return in Week 8 which is great news for fantasy owners. His loss has had a significant detrimental impact on several impact players such as Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown. Look for Pittsburgh’s offense to get on track next week and breathe a sigh of relief putting Big Ben back in your lineup.
Chris Ivory (RB – NYJ)
From the very beginning of the Jets' game against the Patriots it did not look good for Chris Ivory who essentially gave himself up when he felt a tweak in his hamstring running the ball. He spent most of the first half on the sideline getting his leg worked out and did come back to run the ball frequently in the second half. He has been dealing with this for several weeks so there is some concern for one of the league’s top rushers.
Joseph Randle (RB – DAL)
Randle left this week’s game against the Giants with a back injury after rushing the ball only twice. He looked good on those attempts and could have been heading toward a big game. However, he never returned and Darren McFadden stepped in and put up monster numbers. Look for DMC to get a chance to start next week against Seattle with Randle backing him up if he is able to play. Monitor Randle’s status during the week.
Jeremy Maclin (WR – KC)
Maclin was dealing with a concussion last week and was held out of this week’s game against Pittsburgh. The extra rest should be enough to get him back on the field for Week 8. Kansas City will need to rely on him more heavily now that Jamaal Charles is out for the season and Charcandrick West has not exactly made anyone forget about him.
Vincent Jackson (WR – TB)
Jackson has been very inconsistent all season despite being a highly paid target for rookie Jameis Winston. He left Sunday’s game against Washington with a knee injury and did not return. We should know more about his status during the week. Any extended absence for Jackson just means more targets for Mike Evans who looks like he has gotten out of his slump.
Marcus Mariota (QB – TEN)
Mariota missed Week 7 with an MCL injury but is expected back on the field for next week. Mariota has been surprisingly productive during his rookie season, but not good enough to be starting in standard 12-team leagues. Barring any setbacks expect him to play next week for Tennessee but watch for any hesitation or altering of his mechanics due to the injury.
Jason Peters (OL – PHI)
The Eagles' offense seemed to have started figuring things out as the running game got going and the offensive line started providing holes for DeMarco Murray. Unfortunately, Jason Peters suffered a back injury against Carolina on Sunday night and was carted off the field. The nature and severity of the injury will be revealed during the week, so follow his status for updates. If Peters misses any time this will have a detrimental effect on players like Murray and Ryan Mathews, along with pass protection for Sam Bradford.
Bashaud Breeland (DB – WAS)
Breeland has been banged up for a few weeks now but has turned in some spectacular performances in IDP leagues. He has been filling in for D’Angelo Hall admirably and was becoming a reliable IDP option. He left this week’s game against Tampa Bay with a hamstring injury and did not return. Monitor his status during the week for further updates.
