Another one bites the dust.  Week 5 has brought another devastating injury to an elite player that will have major ramifications for fantasy owners vying for league championships.  Once again, your creativity and roster management skills will be put to the test to navigate the muddy waters of injuries.  So without further adieu, here is the next edition of the gridiron walking wounded.

Jamaal Charles (RB – KC)

It is potentially catastrophic news that Jamaal Charles suffered a torn ACL during Kansas City’s game against Chicago this weekend.  He will undergo an MRI on Monday so we should know for sure very soon.  However, it is safe to assume Charles will be done for the season which is going to have major implications on fantasy leagues.  Look for Charcandrick West to become the Chiefs’ primary running back in his place but do not expect Charles-like production.

Odell Beckham, Jr. (WR – NYG)

Beckham left the game on Sunday night after scoring a touchdown and then limping off the field.  He tweaked his hamstring and it is well-documented what his injury history is with both legs.  Beckham was having a huge game with seven catches for 121 yards and a touchdown before the injury and came back during the final drive primarily as a decoy.  Beckham’s status will need to be closely monitored during the week.

Justin Forsett (RB – BAL)

Forsett was in the midst of a huge game when he twisted his ankle on a long run late in the game against Cleveland.  He finished the day with 121 yards rushing and a touchdown, but he could have had more late in the fourth quarter and overtime.  At this point it appears Forsett suffered an ankle sprain, but we won’t know the severity until sometime this week.  Check back within a couple days and make sure he will be playing against San Francisco, who just gave up over 500 yards of offense to the Giants.

Latavius Murray (RB – OAK)

Murray barely played in the second half against Denver and the Raiders seem concerned about his overall health.  He has been banged up the past couple weeks with a shoulder issue but will have the bye week coming up to try and recover.  Murray was emerging as a solid running back option in the Raiders’ suddenly explosive offense earlier in the season, but things have changed quickly on that front.  Monitor his status throughout the next two weeks before Oakland plays again in Week 7.

Marques Colston (WR – NO)

Colston landed very hard on his shoulder during a pass attempt and could not return to the game against Philadelphia.  He was seen wearing a sling on his right arm later on which is concerning.  The Saints offense has not looked good this year and Colston’s fantasy value has already taken a big hit.  Check back in for an update on his status during the week, but assume he is a very risky play for Week 6.

Nelson Agholor (WR – PHI)

The Eagles’ rookie wide receiver left Sunday’s game against the Saints in the first half with an injury to his lower left leg.  He was seen limping off the field but the injury is not considered serious at this point.  Agholor is not much of a fantasy option at this point but he should be back in Week 6 if you are desperate for an injury or bye week replacement.

Victor Cruz (WR – NYG)

It has been very frustrating for fantasy owners who have been stashing Cruz all season.  There have been several stop and starts but Cruz has yet to see the field since sustaining a calf injury during the preseason.  It is getting harder and harder to justify holding onto him but the fear is that he would come back and produce for someone else’s roster.  Try and be patient because once Cruz returns he should bolster your receiving core in the Giants solid aerial attack.

Matt Jones (RB – WAS)

Fantasy flash-in-the-pan Matt Jones left this week’s game against Atlanta with a sprained big toe.  He did have more rushing attempts than Alfred Morris but only averaged less than two yards per carry.  Jones has failed to replicate his production from a few weeks ago and has become just a part of a dysfunctional running back committee for the Redskins.  His status will be updated during the week, but he is a risky option next week against a solid Jets defense even if he is able to play.
