Before closing the door on another week of the Major League Baseball season, we need to first take a look back at the top fantasy baseball news and headlines from Sunday’s MLB games. Yesterday’s action saw Reid Detmers and Austin Riley make history as both continue to rise up fantasy baseball rankings. Plus, Los Angeles Dodgers rookie James Outman made some history of his own as the MLB top prospect debuted on Sunday. Meanwhile, Seattle Mariners star Julio Rodríguez lands on the MLB injury report, which has many of us looking at some fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups. Before you set fantasy baseball lineups this week or enter MLB DFS lineups tonight, be sure to check out the latest MLB lineups, MLB daily projections, and players trending up and down in the fantasy baseball stock watch. MLB Fantasy Baseball News & Headlines

Historic MLB Debut for James Outman

James Outman, the Los Angeles Dodgers' No. 17 prospect, had an MLB debut to remember yesterday. He hit a home run in his first major league plate appearance and fell just a triple shy of the cycle in the Dodgers' 7-3 victory at Coors Field. Outman became the first player in Dodgers history to record a home run, three hits, three RBI, and two runs scored in his MLB debut. He's also the fourth Dodger to homer in their first big-league at-bat since the move to Los Angeles – joining Jose Offerman (1990), Garey Ingram (1994), and Keibert Ruiz (2020).

Reid Detmers Immaculate Inning

Los Angeles Angels rookie left-hander Reid Detmers made history when he hurled an immaculate inning on Sunday against the Texas Rangers. Detmers became just the third pitcher in MLB history to throw an immaculate inning and a no-hitter in the same season, joining Sandy Koufax and Mike Fiers. It's also only the third immaculate inning in Angels history, which further shows how rare a feat it is to strike out all three batters on nine total pitches in one frame. Nolan Ryan was the franchise's first to do it on July 9, 1972 against Boston, and then Garrett Richards accomplished it on June 4, 2014 at Houston. Check out all nine pitches of Detmers' immaculate inning:

Yordan Alvarez Walk-Off for Astros

When the Mariners called on young Brennan Bernardino, in his major league debut, to pitch to one of the best hitters in Major League Baseball in the bottom of the 10th inning of a tie game – most observers had the feeling it wouldn’t end well. It didn’t. Yordan Alvarez slapped a single to right field to drive home Mauricio Dubón for the walk-off win. The Houston Astros picked up their sixth win over the Mariners since the All-Star break.

Salvador Perez Is Back!

Salvador Perez, who most thought would still be on the IL until at least late-August, showed the baseball world that he is back. He blasted a 441-foot go-ahead home run off the New York Yankees' dominant closer, Clay Holmes, in the ninth inning en route to an 8-6 Royals victory on Sunday. Perez underwent surgery in late June to repair a torn UCL in his left thumb and most assumed he would be out until late-August or early-September. But this is Salvy Perez, one of the toughest in the game. He now has two home runs in his three games since returning to the lineup.

Austin Riley Walk-Off Caps His Huge July

Austin Riley just ended one of the most prolific months in Atlanta Braves franchise history. Riley's walk-off double, his second two-bagger of the day, gave him a franchise-record 26 extra-base hits in July as he passed the great Hank Aaron – who recorded 25 in July of 1961. Riley’s July slash ended at .423/.459/.885 (44-for-104) with 11 homers, 25 RBI, and 21 runs scored. The Braves third baseman also became the seventh player since 1901 to hit .420 or better with 26 or more extra-base hits in a month.

Julio Rodríguez to Injured List

Seattle Mariners star rookie Julio Rodríguez was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a right wrist injury after getting hit by a pitch on Saturday night. Even though X-rays came back negative, there has been continued swelling and weakness which will prevent him from swinging a bat for a few days. J-Rod is having a huge rookie season, slashing .271/.334/.482 with an .816 OPS, 18 homers, and 57 RBI. It's a big blow for fantasy baseball lineups, that's for sure.

Jarred Kelenic Back in The Show

Following Julio Rodríguez's injury, the Mariners recalled top prospect Jarred KelenicThe 23-year-old outfielder is back in the majors after slashing .288/.353/.550 with 11 home runs, 37 RBI, and three steals at Triple-A Tacoma. Kelenic, who came up amid much fanfare in 2021, had a very tough start to his MLB career and was eventually sent back down to the minors. He is still a promising talent and could be worth a speculative waiver wire pickup in season-long leagues.

MLB Best Bets for Monday

Yordan Alvarez OVER 1.5 Total Bases

BVP Alert. Alvarez is 7-for-8 lifetime against Nathan Eovaldi for, yes, an .875 batting average. Not only is that a crazy batter vs. pitcher stat, but Alvarez is also one of the top righty smashers in the game. He has an elite .405 ISO/.483 wOBA with a .333 batting average against right-handed pitching on the season. Plus, he's hitting .350 over the last week with seven home runs and 14 RBI over the past 20 games. Lock Alvarez in the over for his total bases.

Tarik Skubal OVER 5.0 Strikeouts

Skubal certainly has had an up-and-down season, but there is no question about his ability. The Tigers' starting pitcher has come out of the All-Star break on fire, with no earned runs allowed and 12 shutout innings over the past two games combined. He's also struck out 11 and allowed just five hits in these two games. We have seen Skubal look dominant in stretches and this may be one of those runs as the Twins have now lost four of their last five games. Plus, he shut this same Minnesota offense down in June with six strikeouts and no earned runs over seven innings.
