Player News
Brett Sullivan elected free agency after being outrighted by the Pirates.
Sullivan was DFA’d on Monday after going 1-for-6 in two games with the Pirates.
Marlins released OF Albert Almora Jr.
Almora, who played in 600 major league games from 2016-22, had spent the entire season at Triple-A Jacksonville and hit .240/.289/.315 in 159 plate appearances.
White Sox released INF Nick Maton.
Typically a utility infielder, Maton made 15 starts for the White Sox over the first six weeks of the season, with 13 of those coming at DH and the other two at first base. He was DFA’d after hitting .167/.286/.315 in 63 plate appearances, and after clearing waivers and joining Triple-A Charlotte, he’d hit .192/.354/.346 in 65 plate appearances.
Royals activated LHP Sam Long from the 15-day injured list.
Long missed two months because of elbow inflammation. He walked 10 and gave up 10 earned runs over nine innings for Triple-A Omaha on his rehab assignment, so he’ll be eased back into low leverage situations for now. The left-hander was effective for the Royals last year, posting a 3.16 ERA over 42 2/3 innings.
Royals optioned RHP Jonathan Bowlan to Triple-A Omaha.
Bowlan has a 3.00 ERA over 15 innings in three stints in the Royals pen this season, but the Royals needed room for the returning Sam Long.
Braves selected the contract of RHP Didier Fuentes from Triple-A Gwinnett.
José Ruiz was DFA’d last night to make room on the roster. The 20-year-old Fuentes will make his major league debut tonight against the Mets. It’s expected to be just a spot start for now, but he’s quite intriguing for the long haul.
