Things That Make You Go “Hmmmm…”
The Yankees and Orioles game was postponed yesterday. Due to this, Domingo Germán gains a two-start week this week. He gets the Tigers and the Diamondbacks which are nice matchups for a guy with talent that is only 10-percent owned in ESPN leagues.
According to manager Dave Roberts, he is not yet considering sending the struggling Cody Bellinger to AAA. Bellinger has been awful this year, hitting .225/.298/.413. He does have eight home runs and two stolen bases, but obviously holes in his swing that pitchers are exploiting. The problem for the Dodgers is there lack of depth. Right now they can’t afford to send him down due to the overwhelming losses they have sustained. However, Bellinger is obviously lost and needs to rework things.
According to manager Dave Martinez, Daniel Murphy is still “a ways away” from rejoining the Nationals. Reports are not good from area scouts and reporters that have stated that Murphy is still not only having trouble moving laterally, but is also looking slow running straight ahead. This is discouraging news for fantasy owners that have been stashing him for quite a while already.
According to Giants manager Bruce Bochy, Johnny Cueto could return to the team by the end of the month. The Giants have Madison Bumgarner coming back on Tuesday, but also still have Jeff Samardzija out with injury, so Cueto will be a nice addition to the rotation that currently features the likes of Ty Blach and Derek Holland . Cueto has been great when healthy, but he hasn’t been healthy for long this season.
Daniel Gossett will have an MRI on Monday after exiting his start on Sunday with elbow pain. This does not sound good and could potentially be an UCL injury. If so, it would end his season, further cementing guys like Frankie Montás in the A’s rotation.
That Happened?!?
Carlos Rodon pitched five innings in his most recent rehab appearance as he work his way back from off-season surgery. Rodon struck out eight in the outing and has been especially impressive in the K/BB department. He should slot right back into the top of the rotation for the White Sox when healthy.
Marcell Ozuna hit a grandslam yesterday for the Cardinals against the Pirates. This was a nice thing to see as Ozuna has shown little power over the course of this season and there has been wide speculation that he is ailing from a shoulder issue. He had an impressive triple slash over the month of May, but pair that with an over 60% ground ball rate and that becomes less enticing in fantasy.
Both Michael Wacha and Kyle Gibson carried no-hitters into the later innings of each of their respective starts yesterday. Wacha’s was broken up by a single in the ninth inning to Colin Moran . Gibson’s perfect game was broken up in the sixth shortly after I tweeted about it… My bad.
What We’ll Be Watching Today
A double header for the Yankees and Tigers. Luis Severino will try and continue his dominance. Domingo Germán gets a two start week this week after his start yesterday was rained out.
Danny Duffy vs the Angels. Duffy has bounced back recently after a dreadful start, but the Angels sport a very right-handed lineup, so this could be trouble for him.
Is Mike Trout ok? He was hurt yesterday, but is expected to play.
Can Zack Godley rebound? The stuff is still there, but he has been awful this season. He gets a Giants team that can be Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde offensively.
Baseball. Lots of baseball.
