Well, at Week 17, you’d like to throw down those Dan Fouts Waterboy quotes of “Last game of the season, can’t hold anything back,” but that’s just not the case, is it? Lots of tough calls to make as we are expected to have a number of teams resting their starters. For some, like the Steelers, it’s the full game. For others, like the Giants, we expect to see the starters make an appearance, but for how much of the game is still up in the air. As a result, I will be limited in the number of cash games I play while, for shits and giggles, I may throw down some extra GPP lineups. Here’s the way the Week 17 wide receivers line up for me. As always, data first; recommendations after.

Elite Plays
Mike Evans, TB – He continues to be fed the ball and now faces a Panthers secondary that has been torched all season long. They rank 24th vs opposing WR1 and allow an average of just over 75 yards per game to them.
Julio Jones, ATL – The Falcons need the win (or a Seahawks loss) if they want to hold onto the No. 2 seed, so they should be a full-go against the Saints. There are obvious concerns about the team holding Jones back to protect him for the playoffs, but in a GPP, I’ll give him a look.
Jordy Nelson, GB – The Packers need the win for the NFC North title and the Lions are likely without Darius Slay. Whether they run Nelson on the outside or heavily out of the slot like they did last week, he should excel.
Pricey but Affordable
Doug Baldwin, SEA – With the ground game banged up again, look for Russell Wilson to lean heavily on his No. 1 wideout. Do we even need to quote 49ers defensive numbers to illustrate how strong a play he is?
Brandin Cooks, NO – Drew Brees is just going back and forth between Cooks and Michael Thomas and the Saints want to try and play spoiler here. Sure, the game is on the road, but that shouldn’t be an issue for New Orleans.
Julian Edelman, NE – The Patriots don’t have the luxury to scoreboard watch here, so look for them to go all out early and grab a quick lead over Miami who should already be locked into the No. 6 seed, win or lose. Expect a lot of early passing with a heavy ground attack in the second half.
Michael Thomas, NO – Just go up two spots and read under Cooks. Same should apply here for Thomas at a better price.
Emmanuel Sanders, DEN – They say Trevor Siemian will start but Paxton Lynch will finish. Look for both quarterbacks to rely on the short passing game against the Raiders while David Amerson keeps a watchful eye on Demaryius Thomas.
Tyreek Hill, KC – The question is, how do you not play him? He’ll remain a GPP-only option for me, but given the way the Chiefs continuously use him, he should always warrant consideration.
Solid Value
Sammy Watkins, BUF – While it sucks that EJ Manuel will be under center, it’s still the Jets secondary we’re talking about here. Pretty confident that Watkins posts a strong game this week.
Allen Robinson, JAC – Finally came back to life last week and should get a chance at an encore performance. His price is a little better than teammate Marqise Lee, and he should see the heavier target load even if Vontae Davis is keeping a close watch.
Michael Crabtree, OAK – With Matt McGloin under center and the Denver secondary still playing strong, I expect the Raiders to implement a much shorter passing attack. Crabtree is battling an ankle issue but should still be more than ready for the game.
Terrelle Pryor, CLE – With RG3 still dealing with concussion protocol, the Browns could/should turn back to Cody Kessler. It’s not the most glowing endorsement for Pryor, but against a Steelers secondary that is resting most of its starters, Pryor should work on plenty of volume here.
Steve Smith, BAL – It’s going to be his last hurrah. Why wouldn’t the Ravens try to force-feed their tiny golden boy during his swan song? The Bengals have nothing to play for, so this could be a real nice game for the soon-to-be-retired wideout.
Golden Tate, DET – The Packers are weak on the outside and the Lions are going to need to try and keep pace with Aaron Rodgers & Company. Tate should see more volume than Marvin Jones and he also gets most of the red zone looks.
Bargain Hunting
Randall Cobb, GB – If the ankle is ok and Cobb is ready, look for him as a nice play out of the slot where the Lions have been weak all year.
Ted Ginn, CAR – He’s boom or bust, but has also seen a nice uptick in targets over the last five weeks. When he hits, it’s always for a strong total. Again, GPP only though.
Paul Richardson, SEA – Most expect Jermain Kearse to see the biggest uptick in snaps with Tyler Lockett out, but Richardson makes for a great GPP play here as he’s probably a better fit on the outside than Kearse.
