Below are stacks to consider for Saturday’s MLB DFS action

The Chalk

New York Yankees

If you’re playing the all-day slate, the Yankees are the obvious chalk as they lead the day in projected run total per Vegas with the only projected total over six runs. The Yanks are -320 home favorites against Baltimore with right-hander David Hess on the mound for the O’s. Hess has an ERA and xFIP over 5.00 for the season, and somehow none of that damage has been done by the Yankees as Hess has avoided them in his 17 starts despite playing in the same division.

Hess has well below average numbers against hitters from both sides of the plate this season, so you don’t have to focus only on Yankees who will have the platoon advantage. That said, Hess has been a bit worse against lefties, so it’s probably a good idea to include the two Yankee lefties with the best numbers against right-handed pitching in your stack, Aaron Hicks and Did Gregorius. Both guys are hitting the ball well of late as Hicks is hitting .318 with a homer and a steal in the last week, while Didi is hitting .300 with three homers in that stretch. You can fill in a stack with the guys that hit near those two in the order. The only guys you might avoid based on below average production against right-handed pitching this season are Austin Romine , Gary Sánchez and Neil Walker .

Los Angeles Dodgers

If you’re playing the evening-only, main slate, the Dodgers become the chalk. The Dodgers are a -300 favorite at home against the Padres who will send right-hander Jacob Nix to the hill. Nix has a 5.55 ERA and 5.76 xFIP in the last 30 days, and he has the second-highest hard-hit rate and lowest strikeout rate for the season among today’s probable starters. Nix is another pitcher who is below average against hitters from both sides, but he has actually exhibited reverse splits this season, which means LA right-handers are very much in play today.

With expanded September rosters, the Dodgers literally have 13 guys on the team who have been at least 10 percent better than league average against right-handed pitching this season. It’s virtually impossible to tell you how specifically to stack from LA’s lineup as the entire lineup could end up being in play. The recommendation would be to simply make sure you have at least a couple LA guys in your cash lineups and try to pick a couple guys hitting next to each other in the lineup if possible. The Dodgers could also be a contrarian stack option if you lean toward the guys down the order as the guys hitting near the top should see high ownership.

Not the Chalk

Philadelphia Phillies

As we near the end of the season, temperatures are starting to cool down, which is not beneficial for hitters. However, there is one game today that has some hitter-friendly mercury as the Phillies and Braves play at noon in Atlanta where temperatures will be in the high-80’s and could reach a high of 90. Jake Arrieta will take on Mark Foltynewicz, and we prefer to pick on Folty as Arrieta has been pitching better of the two recently and Arrieta is a heavy ground ball pitcher who limits hard contact.

Folty has been above average against hitters from both sides this season, but he does have a bit of a traditional split. Philly’s hottest hitter lately has been switch-hitter César Hernández who is hitting .273 with three home runs in the last 15 days. Hernandez will lead off today, so he’s a good way to start a Philly stack. Hitting third will be lefty Odubel Herrera who owns a .357 average in 29 PA against Folty. In the clean up spot will be switch-hitter Carlos Santana who has a healthy 107 wRC+ vs. RHP this season. Sandwiched between those lefties in the three-hole is right-handed Rhys Hoskins who leads the team in wRC+ vs. RHP despite being right-handed himself. Tl;dr 1-2-3-4 is the Philly stack.

Let it be known that the Phillies are idiots for not starting Justin Bour and Asdrubal Cabrera today. Bour and Cabrera have the highest wRC+ marks on the team as lefties against right-handed pitching. They’re also a combined 11-for-22 with three home runs in their careers against Folty.
