Nationals
The Nationals rested many of their usual starters last night, but they all should be back tonight for the second game of this series vs the Mets. Although the Nationals do not have the highest projected run total of the early games, they have a great shot of ending up as the highest scoring team today. They face Robert Gsellman this afternoon, who has only allowed three earned runs over his two starts since returning from the DL, but was rocked by Washington back in June for seven runs, and a career high 11 hits allowed. Gsellman also has a road ERA of 7.85 in seven starts this season. The projected players to start for the Nationals today are a combined 14-28 of him, with Murphy (5-8), and Zimmerman (4-7) leading the pack.
The price tag for Washington’s players are at a much friendlier price than the top early stack options of the Yankees and the Red Sox, but suggest pairing the Nats with one of those two teams.
Top Washington Picks: Daniel Murphy, Ryan Zimmerman, Anthony Rendon, Adam Lind
Secondary Washington Picks: Matt Wieters, Michael Taylor, Howie Kendrick
Padres @ Marlins
Similar to the early stack option, the Padres and Marlins do not have the highest projected run totals, but the Marlins offense has been hot, and they are having a call-up relief pitcher to make his second start of the year. These teams combined for 14 runs last night, and have the ability to hit that mark again tonight. These team’s projected starters have a combined two at bats over tonight’s starting pitchers, but the bullpens may be having extra duty tonight.
Odrisamer Despaigne is a former Padre, that in his only start of the year, he lasted only 4 ? innings, and gave up eight runs (three earned). Right-handed hitters have a chase rate of just 15.4% (8/52) against Odrisamer Despaigne as a reliever this season (Rank: 251st of 252 qualified RPs in MLB; League Avg: 30.7%). Despaingne also has a 1.53 WHIP for the season, and if he finds himself behind in the count, Padres hitters are slugging .681 (481 total bases in 706 ABs) when the pitcher is behind in the count this season (Rank: 4th of 30 in MLB; League Avg: .635).
Lamet also has control issues, walking six in his last start, which was his first loss after four straight wins. The Marlins hit 10 home runs over their four games vs Philly, and started this series with three last night. Two came from Stanton, who is both perfect to start and fade in a full game gpp stack if entering two lineups. Marlins hitters have 69 Extra-Base hits out of 167 total hits (41.3%) versus RHP over the last 30 days (Rank: 2nd of 30 in MLB; League Avg: 36.7%)
Top Suggested Stack:
Marlins: Giancarlo Stanton, J.T. Realmuto, Christian Yelich, Derek Dietrich or Dee Gordon
Padres: Wil Myers, Manny Margot, Carlos Asuaje or Cory Spangenberg, Dusty Coleman
