Ray Flowers talks holidays, family and baseball. And booze, and contacts, and inane signings... and shares a personal photo too. It's a Festive miracle.
Johnny Cueto, bah humbug? Cueto's agent (Bryce Dixon) said that his client will only negotiate until Opening Day. If nothing is worked out by then, he's gonna hit free agency after the season. Dixon said that Max Scherzer is the closest comp to Cueto. If he truly believes that, Cueto won't be signing with the Reds.
Jason Grilli was give a 2-year, $8 million deal with a club option by the Atlanta Braves. The 38 year old is no threat to Craig Kimbrel of course, but he's a nice arm to consider late in NL-only drafts. He hit the skids last year with a 4.00 ERA and 1.33 WHIP but he still struck out more than a batter an inning while allowing only four homers in 54 innings.
David Ross joined the Cubs on a 2-year, $5 million deal. He will serve as the backup to Miguel Montero. There is some talk that Ross could basically become the personal catcher for Jon Lester. We shall see. Ross is nothing more than a second catcher in NL-only leagues though he does own a solid power bat even at 37 years of age (26 homers his last 582 at-bats).
Tim Stauffer to the Twins ain't a bad deal for one year at $2.2 million. Though his WHIP ballooned to 1.40 this year the mark was 1.13 in 2013 and 1.25 in 2011 (he only threw five innings in 2012). The last two years he's struck out a better per inning while working almost exclusively out of the bullpen. A strong swingman who can start and relieve.
Ian Stewart signed with the Nationals. He picked up a minor league deal. Honestly, who cares?
Brett Wallace signed with the Padres on a minor league deal. Honestly, who cares?

Oh, and be responsible this holiday season. Make sure you keep your booze warm when you aren't drinking it.
From the Fantasy Alarm family, happy holidays. Here I am dressed as Jack Skelington.
