In order to make the best waiver and lineup decisions each week you really need to break down who is on the field the most and who is touching the ball the most. If you follow those very basic principles you will do quite well week in and week out.
So every week I will be taking a close look at the amount of snaps that players who are in platoon situations are getting in order to uncover those hidden gems that win championships.
Today we break down several potential waiver pickups to uncover which will help us the most going forward.
Miami Dolphins WR’s (81 Total Snaps)
Brian Hartline - 66
Mike Wallace – 59
Jarvis Landry – 44
Brandon Gibson – 41
Rishard Matthews – 24
Breakdown: Jarvis Landry has been rapidly improving both his playing time and his performance since training camp. He has been lining up a lot on the outside as well as in the slot and producing at a very high level. Landry has great hands and the ability to make plays after the catch which is sorely needed from this Dolphins receiving corps.
New Orleans Saints RB’s (72 Total Snaps)
Pierre Thomas – 28
Mark Ingram – 20
Khiry Robinson – 14
Travaris Cadet – 12
Breakdown: Mark Ingram is out 4-6 weeks with a broken hand leaving a gaping hole in the Saints offense and huge opportunity for fantasy owners. Pierre Thomas will continue to be the primary back in this offense but Khiry Robinson should get a big increase in snaps and touches. Robinson has already seen goal line touches and will likely receive the majority of carries while Ingram is out. Thomas will slide into a passing down role while Robinson is the one carrying the football.
Cincinnati Bengals WR’s (72 Total Snaps)
Mahamed Sanu – 71
Brandon Tate – 60
Dane Sanzenbacher – 35
James Wright – 6
Breakdown: This is one that will be missed by just about everyone. When A.J. Green left the game with a toe injury it was Brandon Tate who took his place. Sure Mohamed Sanu will be the primary target in the Bengals passing game but Tate is a very intriguing player himself. This is a guy who was on his way to being a first round pick before a devastating knee injury his Junior year at North Carolina. He has outstanding speed and playmaking ability. He can be had for $1 on waiver this week.
Washington Redskins WR’s (87 Total Snaps)
Pierre Garcon – 74
Andre Roberts – 66
Ryan Grant – 39
Aldrick Robinson – 9
Breakdown: DeSean Jackson is questionable for the Redskins week three matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. When you combine this very favorable matchup with the upgrade the Redskins have at QB now that Kirk Cousins is at the helm, you have an opportunity for big fantasy production this week. Andre Roberts was a focus of the Redskins this offseason before D-Jax became available. Now he will have a chance to make a big impact against a division opponent.
Oakland Raiders WR’s (63 Total Snaps)
James Jones – 47
Denarius Moore – 46
Andre Holmes – 34
Rod Streater – 17
Brice Butler – 8
Breakdown: Rod Streater is out indefinitely with a hip flexor strain. Rookie QB Derek Carr has shown a lot of confidence in Denarius Moore who is Streater’s backup and thus the one to target on the waiver wire this week. Moore is a big time downfield playmaker who is now in line for a big uptick in targets.
