MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 4/1
Our MLB Best Bets Today start with an intriguing AL matchup between the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers. Pitchers Logan Gilbert and Casey Mize have our eyes on a few MLB picks for that late-night game.
We’ll also dive into an interleague matchup between the Kansas City Royals and Milwaukee Brewers for our second round of MLB predictions. Check out the picks, props, and bets to make as you enjoy Tuesday’s night of baseball.
Tigers vs. Mariners Predictions: Thursday, April 1st
Logan Gilbert should be in the AL Cy Young conversation all season. The Mariners’ ace finished sixth in the voting last year and is a top-5 contender for 2025, based on preseason odds. Gilbert is the basis of our Tigers vs. Mariners MLB best bets today.
Look for the Seattle righty to have his way with Detroit’s lineup tonight. Gilbert had an excellent season debut last week, allowing just one run over seven innings with eight strikeouts and no walks. He can carry that performance over into this home matchup. Gilbert had a 2.49 ERA and 0.82 WHIP in 16 home starts last season. He also has a career 2.23 ERA when pitching in March or April.
As for the Tigers’ offense, it can be a favorable matchup for Gilbert. They have a league-high 26.9% K rate vs. right-handed pitching this season so far. It’s a small sample size, but Detroit had the MLB’s ninth-worst strikeout rate vs. righties last year with just a .302 wOBA in the split (also ninth-worst).
Meanwhile, Detroit starter Casey Mize can also hold the Seattle offense in his first start of the season. Mize had a good Spring Training, posting a 1.89 ERA with 25 strikeouts across 19 innings. It was an encouraging sign for the former No. 1 overall draft pick, who had a 4.49 ERA last year. Mize was throwing a harder splitter in the spring, which is a key to his success.
The Mariners have yet to get going offensively. They’re averaging only 2.8 runs over their first five games. Let’s take the under in this game as both Mize and Gilbert anchor a lower-scoring contest. Grab the under for the first five innings as well.

- Under 7 Total Runs (-120 on BetMGM)
- 1st 5 Innings Under 3.5 Runs (+100 on BetMGM)
Royals vs. Brewers Predictions: Thursday, April 1st
Believe it not, we still have a few winless teams nearly a full week into the season. The Braves, Brewers, and Twins have all yet to win a game heading into Tuesday night. Let’s target Milwaukee breaking its losing streak as it hosts the Kansas City Royals to cap off our MLB best bets today.
The Brewers’ pitching staff has been struggling mightily this year. Here’s to Chad Patrick putting an end to that today. The rookie will make his first MLB start after throwing an inning of relief over the weekend. Patrick comes in with plenty of hype after posting a 2.90 ERA with 14 wins and 145 strikeouts in Triple-A last year to win the league’s Triple Crown.
We’ll see if Patrick’s Triple-A success translates over to the majors, but he’s worth backing for the upside. The Brewers’ right-hander has a tough test against the Royals. The KC offense exploded for 11 runs yesterday but averaged just 3.3 runs over the first three games.
On the other side, Michael Lorenzen toes the rubber for Kansas City. The veteran righty posted a solid 3.31 ERA last season, but his 4.59 xERA and 4.89 FIP indicate some negative regression. His .236 BABIP and 82.4% left-on-base rate are worrisome metrics and suggest he won’t be as effective this year – especially since he had an ERA above 4.00 in each of the four previous seasons.
The Milwaukee offense has yet to truly get going, but it’s a nice buy-low time. This is still a team that won the NL Central a year ago and began the season as the division favorites. Backing the Brewers moneyline to win their first game of the year is the play. We’ll also take them to lead after the first five innings behind a strong Patrick outing.
- Expert Royals vs. Brewers Picks:
- Brewers Money Line (-120 on FanDuel)
- Brewers 1st 5 Innings ML (-120 on FanDuel)
Best MLB Player Prop Bets & Other Picks Today, 4/1
- Nathan Eovaldi (Rangers) – Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-132 on FanDuel)
- Jose Berrios (Blue Jays) – Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+130 on BetMGM)
- Will Warren (Yankees) – Over 3.5 Hits Allowed (-145 on DraftKings)
Player News
670 The Score’s Bruce Levine reports the Cubs are calling up top prospect Moises Ballesteros on Tuesday.
Levine adds that Ian Happ, who has missed three straight games with an oblique injury, is headed to the injured list as the corresponding move. The 21-year-old backstop has put up impressive numbers this season for Triple-A Iowa, batting .368/.420/.522 with four homers and three steals as one of the youngest hitters in the Pacific Coast League. He could make an impact for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues, especially if he’s playing regularly at DH, which makes him worthy of a speculative pickup. The biggest development for fantasy purposes here is that emerging star Pete Crow-Armstrong will continue leading off for at least a couple extra games until Happ returns.
Jhony Brito underwent UCL surgery with an internal brace procedure last month.
Brito will miss the remainder of the season and most likely a significant portion of next season as well. The 27-year-old righty made a career-high 26 relief appearances last year for San Diego.
Jonathan India picked up two RBI on three hits in a win Monday over the Astros.
Bobby Witt Jr. tripled and drove in two runs while helping the Royals to a 7-5 win over the Astros on Wednesday.
Carlos Estévez worked a scoreless ninth to procure a save against the Astros on Monday.
Michael Wacha allowed eight hits, but gave up just two runs over 6 1/3 innings in a win over the Astros on Monday.
