Mets vs. Astros Predictions For MLB on FOX, 3/29

After struggling to score just a single run on Opening Day against the ‘Stros, the Mets were able to nearly instantly double their team total from that series opener with two quick runs in the second inning last night. It was also interesting to see Jesse Winker knock in one of those runs, as he was able to be in the lineup with Houston not having a lefty on the mound this time.

That will be the case again tonight for this featured matchup on Fox, as Spencer Arrighetti will be taking the mound. He certainly had his growing pains in his rookie season last year, while New York starter Griffin Canning starting will be looking to prove himself to his new team after being across the country last season with the Los Angeles Angels.

Now that we’ve hit the series finale and know that we don’t have true studs on the mount, locking in a best bet from any Mets vs. Astros predictions takes a bit more digging.

New York Mets: Soto Strikes Back

While Winker getting in on the action got things started early for the Mets, it was really the run they scored in the third inning that was perhaps the most important. Their new $765 million man Juan Soto immediately received ridicule for the way he was unable to come up clutch in the ninth on Opening Day.

It was pretty crazy to see so many intense reactions after just one game, but he quickly tried to silence them by going yard with a 402-yard solo shot to give the Mets a 3-0 lead. Now facing another right, perhaps taking a player prop for Soto could be the preferred approach for some fans when it comes to locking in Mets vs. Astros picks.

Houston Astros: Bye Bye Bregman

The biggest news of the offseason for the Astros was the loss of Alex Bregman, who is now trying to help the Boston Red Sox back to prominence in the AL East. While that was certainly a blow to Houston, they had full faith in Isaac Paredes. The new third baseman is batting second in the lineup, and the Astros aren’t the only ones who have faith.

It seems as though oddsmakers do as well, as they have Paredes listed for some season-long awards, which may take some fans by surprise. He was able to record his first hit of the season last night after scoring a run on Opening Day, but of course, it’s still a long road ahead with some big shoes to fill.

Mets vs. Astros Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines

The first two games were each decided by two runs, and the Mets vs. Astros odds for today at Caesars Sportsbook suggest an even closer game tonight:

Mets vs. Astros Best Bet: Pete Alonso Over 0.5 RBI (+150 at Caesars Sportsbook)

After two close, low-scoring matchups to start the series and the season, we’re set up for yet another tight matchup tonight. While it’s one that we expect to have far more runs, rather than targeting the overall total, we’re going to focus on the player prop markets for the best bet from our Mets vs. Astros predictions.

In that regard, we’re eyeing the New York side of the matchup and one of their household names. Following a bit of a long process, slugger Pete Alonso decided to stay with the Mets, and we’re looking for him to knock in a run tonight. Getting further into the Astros rotation is a benefit for him, as Spencer Arrighetti is far from an ace.

Alonso is also set up for even more success this season thanks to the acquisition of Juan Soto. Two seasons ago, Pete Alonso’s 118 RBI were the second-most in all of baseball. That decreased to 88 RBI last season, but now, he has both Francisco Lindor AND Juan Soto hitting in front of him in the lineup.

While Juan Soto went deep himself last night, that obviously can’t be expected every at bat. It’s time we see Soto get on base and Alonso knock him in, and tonight sets up perfectly for that. Along with some great plus-money odds, the best bet from our Mets vs. Astros predictions is on Pete Alonso over 0.5 RBI (+150 at Caesars Sportsbook).
