Injuries are the bane of a fantasy football owner’s existence. The NFL does such an amazingly poor job at reporting and acknowledging injuries and thus it makes it incredibly difficult to find useful information.
But on Friday’s the NFL has an obligation to report the true status of each player on every roster. It’s the closest we’ll get to knowing who is in or out for this week in the NFL. So the thing to do is to use this information along with the daily practice reports to sort out who is likely to play and sit this week. Only after the status reports come out on Friday does the rest of the week’s activity really make sense.
So, every Friday I will be sending you reports of all at risk players across the NFL. I’ll include the players who are definitely OUT for the week as well as those who are definitely playing. So the focus will be on the questionable players for the week. These reports will tell you whether or not you can relax or wait for the NFL inactive reports on Sunday morning.
Let’s take a look at the Week 15 Practice Reports:
IN
Roddy White, WR, Falcons – Ankle
Steve Smith, WR, Ravens – Illness
Eddie Lacy, RB, Packers – Hip
Greg Olsen, TE, Panthers – Knee
Isaiah Crowell, RB, Browns – Hip
Arian Foster, RB, Texans – Groin
Jamaal Charles, RB, Chiefs – Knee
C.J. Anderson, RB, Broncos – Ankle
OUT
Denard Robinson, RB, Jaguars – Foot
DeAngelo Williams, RB, Panthers – Hand
Cam Newton, QB, Panthers – Back
Gary Barnidge, TE, Browns – Rib
Garrett Graham, TE, Texans – Ankle
Denarius Moore, WR, Raiders – Knee
Roy Helu, RB, Redskins – Toe
Montee Ball, RB, Broncos – Groin
Zach Mettenberger, QB, Titans – Shoulder
Stevie Johnson, WR, 49ers – Knee
UP IN THE AIR
Julio Jones, WR, Falcons – Hip
We knew it as soon as it happened on Monday Night Football. Julio Jones has a serious injury in his hip that could wind up needing surgery. There is no way that he is playing in week 15 and I would consider him a longshot to play again this season.
Jermaine Gresham, TE, Bengals – Toe
Gresham missed practice after returning on a limited basis on Thursday. That is never a good sign and thus he should simply not be thought of in fantasy leagues this week.
Billy Cundiff, K, Browns – Knee
A kicker that has an injury to the knee in his kicking leg is about as bad as it gets. The Browns haven’t signed a new kicker yet but I would seriously doubt if Cundiff was able to go this Sunday against the Bengals.
Reggie Bush, RB, Lions – Ankle
Bush is really getting a lot of mileage with this ankle injury. He sat out practice on Wednesday and returned for a limited session on both Thursday and Friday. I expect him to be active but he will likely be limited once again in week 15.
Andre Johnson, WR, Texans – Concussion
I haven’t done the exact math on this yet but players who aren’t cleared from the league’s concussion protocol by Friday have to be about 99.9% to not play on Sunday. You will have to do battle without AJ in your semifinal game this week.
Reggie Wayne, WR, Colts – Triceps
Wayne is by far the hardest injury situation to gauge. There are some conflicting reports about whether Wayne practiced and when this week. Some reports said that he participated in practice on Wednesday. Others claim he went full out on Friday’s session. The official report on Reggie Wayne however is incomplete. He was not given an official status which only happens if/when there is a corresponding roster move coming up. I suppose we’ll know more soon but as of right now I think that we could see Wayne shut down for the rest of the season.
Colt McCoy, RB, Redskins – Neck
The Redskins rushing McCoy back proves just how much they hate Robert Griffin III. McCoy is going to play but is a very unsettling choice to play at QB this week. Please find other options if possible.
DeSean Jackson, WR, Redskins – Shin
D-Jax practiced on a limited basis all week which was a big improvement from last week when he sat out. It will be a gemetime call for DeSean Jackson this week but my gut is telling me that he will suit up against the Giants.
Ryan Mathews, RB, Chargers – Ankle
The better question here is who will get the majority of the touches in Mathews absence this week? He cannot be counted on whatsoever this week.
Percy Harvin, WR, Jets – Ankle
It was a typical Percy Harvin week this week. Harvin sat out practice on Wednesday and Thursday but returned on a limited fashion on Friday. The problem with Harvin is that he is so sketchy that it just isn’t worth the hassle.
Kendall Wright, WR, Titans – Hand
Wright did some light drills on Thursday but then sat out then entire Friday practice session. That cannot be a good sign for Wright’s week 15 outlook.
