Injuries are the bane of a fantasy football owner’s existence. The NFL does such an amazingly poor job at reporting and acknowledging injuries and thus it makes it incredibly difficult to find useful information.
But on Friday’s the NFL has an obligation to report the true status of each player on every roster. It’s the closest we’ll get to knowing who is in or out for this week in the NFL. So the thing to do is to use this information along with the daily practice reports to sort out who is likely to play and sit this week. Only after the status reports come out on Friday does the rest of the week’s activity really make sense.
So, every Friday I will be sending you reports of all at risk players across the NFL. I’ll include the players who are definitely OUT for the week as well as those who are definitely playing. So the focus will be on the questionable players for the week. These reports will tell you whether or not you can relax or wait for the NFL inactive reports on Sunday morning.
Let’s take a look at the Week 14 Practice Reports:
IN
Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Steelers – Hand
Reggie Bush, RB, Lions – Ankle
Khiry Robinson, RB, Saints – Arm
Donnie Avery, WR, Chiefs – Groin
Marshawn Lynch, RB, Seahawks – Back
OUT
Gary Barnidge, TE, Browns – Ribs
Garrett Graham, TE, Texans – Ankle
Jace Amaro, TE, Jets – Concussion
Jerick McKinnon, RB, Vikings – Back
DeAngelo Williams, RB, Panthers – Hand
Junior Hemingway, WR, Chiefs – Concussion
Andre Ellington, RB, Cardinals – Hip
Mike Williams, WR, Bills – Calf
Montee Ball, RB, Broncos – Groin
Ronnie Hillman, RB, Broncos – Foot
Cooper Helfet, TE, Seahawks – Ankle
Nick Foles, QB, Eagles – Collarbone
UP IN THE AIR
Jordan Cameron, TE, Browns – Concussion
Cameron was supposed to play last week against the Bills and did not. So he practiced all week in a limited fashion and is once again questionable. Even if Cameron were to play he is so far off of the fantasy radar he should not even be on rosters anymore.
Isaiah Crowell, RB, Browns – Hip
Crowell sat out on Wednesday before getting in limited sessions on both Thursday and Friday. Crowell will give it a go on Sunday against the Colts. He may give way to Terrance West a little more than usual but should still be considered a mid level RB2 for this matchup.
Justin Forsett, RB, Ravens – Knee
The Ravens are likely resting their feature RB at this late point in the season. Forsett got in limited work on Friday and is fully expected to play against the Dolphins on Sunday.
Greg Olsen, TE, Panthers – Knee
I am willing to bet that less than 10% of you realized that Olsen inured his knee in last weeks game against the Vikings. He missed practice on Wednesday and only got in a limited session on Thursday and Friday. But Olsen is a warrior and it will take a lot more than a bum knee to keep him out this week.
Rashad Jennings, RB, Giants – Ankle
Surprisingly Jennings returned to practice on Friday but he has a pretty significant ankle sprain. Consider him a long shot to play in week 14 against the Titans.
Kendall Wright, WR, Titans – Hand
Wright didn’t practice all week and admitted that he flat out isn’t playing in week 14. He hopes to return next week but that really doesn’t help us get a win this week.
Zach Mettenberger, QB, Titans – Shoulder
Mettenberger has a partial dislocation of his throwing shoulder yet is fully expected to play against the Giants in week 14.
DeSean Jackson, WR, Redskins – Shin
Any chance D-Jax has to not practice, he will take it. His shin injury is supposedly really bothering him and most folks around the Redskins believe D-Jax will be out this week. He is a true game time decision who has a poor matchup to boot.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Cardinals – Knee
The Cardinals are getting desperate for a playmaker on offense and may try and force Fitzgerald back against the Chiefs. He practiced fully on Friday after being limited for the rest of the week and has a legitimate shot to play this week. I would be hesitant to play Fitzgerald as anything more than a low end FLEX play.
Julius Thomas, TE, Broncos – Ankle
I want everybody to remember that Thomas is once again having significant issues with getting on the field after an injury. Thomas spent his first two season basically injured and this ankle situation is getting out of control. It appears as though Thomas will miss another week though despite practicing in a limited fashion all week.
