CFB DFS Playbook Week 6 Saturday Night
CFB DFS Quarterbacks
John Rhys Plumlee (UCF) @ECU ($8.4K DK/$11.5K FD)
Plumlee is coming off a monster game at home against Temple where he went 24-of-28 passing (85.7%) for 433 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. That’s not all as he also ran the ball seven times for 37 yards and three more touchdowns for a total of 55.62 DraftKings points. The seven overall touchdowns tied a school record, and he is currently the only player in the nation with at least 1,500 plus yards passing and 450 plus yards rushing. Tonight, he goes on the road against East Carolina, a team that struggles to slow down the passing game and is allowing a slate high 278.3 yards per game in the air. JRP will be the highest-owned QB on the slate.
Malik Cunningham (UL) vs. PITT ($7.4K DK/$11.4K FD)
Cunningham has dealt with some inconsistency so far this season but he’s one of the best in the nation at extending plays with his legs. This is a dual-threat averaging 91.4 rushing yards per game and throwing for 968 yards and three touchdowns (along with three interceptions) on 84-of-135 passing attempts. Among starting quarterbacks in the ACC, he averages the second-fewest passing yards per game (193.6 yards) but is still averaging 30.9 DK fantasy points per contest and is very affordable at only $7.4K on DraftKings.
Ben Gulbranson (ORST) vs. COL ($4.5K DK/$7.3K FD)
Ben Gulbranson will likely start for a third consecutive week as Chance Nolan has yet to be cleared from concussion protocol.
The third-year freshman was the starter the past two weeks as the Beavers won games against Stanford and Washington State. Gulbranson completed 12 of 24 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown in a 24-10 win over Washington State and in three games he is 47 of 77 for 616 yards and three touchdowns. We need to confirm 100% before kick-off that Nolan is out, but this is a very interesting Cash play at the bare minimum price. Gulbranson has a limited ceiling (GPPs) because Oregon State could also just run the ball over the entire game.
Other Top Quarterbacks:
- Max Duggan, TCU ($7.9K DK/$10.8K FD) Eight passing and four rushing TDs in last three games.
- Bryce Young, BAMA ($9.1K DK/$10.6K FD) GPP only on DK due to price but a top cash play on FD — has a massive implied total.
- Holton Ahlers, ECU ($7.2K DK/$9.8K FD) This game could shoot out plus will run a little.
- Adrian Martinez, KSU ($8.3K DK/$10.5K FD) Dual threat and only one turnover on the season.
- Haynes King, TAMU ($5.5K DK/$7.1K FD) Priced far too low- GPP.
CFB DFS Running Backs
Jahmyr Gibbs (BAMA) vs. MSST ($7.8K DK/$9.7K FD)
Even in a negative game script last week against Tennessee where Bryce Young threw a season-high 52 passes, Gibbs still carried the ball 24 times for 103 yards and three TDs. This week Alabama is a big 21-point home favorite against a Mississippi State team that struggles against the run so Gibbs could be in for a huge day. He has put up big numbers over the last three weeks rushing for 450 plus yards to go along with 10 receptions and five touchdowns. Big bounce-back game here for the Tide.
Devon Achane (TAMU) @SCAR ($5.6K DK/$8.5K FD)
Achane has feasted on the Gamecocks in his career. In 2020, he rushed for one touchdown and had another on a 52-yard pass. Last season at home, he ran for 154 yards on 20 carries and a score (a career-high at the time) and he was still the RB2 behind Isaiah Spiller. Achane has pretty much been the only consistent piece in a sputtering A&M offense and the Gamecocks have struggled to stop the run again this season, allowing 174.7 rushing yards per game (100th in FBS). Achane ranks second in the SEC in all-purpose yards per game (152) and has rushed for 528 yards and three touchdowns on the season. He may not have the ceiling of some of this slate’s running backs, but at this price, Achane is one of the safest plays on the board.
Keaton Mitchell (ECU) vs. UCF ($6.3K DK/$8.3K FD)
Mitchell is a shifty running back with power and is smashing with 582 yards (6.9 YPC) and six touchdowns on the ground. He also is catching the ball out of the backfield with 15 receptions for 119 yards and is coming off a 43 DK fantasy-point game against Memphis where he ran for 149 yards and three scores. With Rahjai Harris out, Mitchell is playing many more snaps (70 out of 82 last week) and even though UCF is a tough matchup Mitchell should still get there and is viable in all formats in this big matchup.
Damien Martinez (ORST) vs. COL ($3.5K DK/$5.3K FD)
Oregon State has gone with a three-man rotation at running back all season, but freshman Martinez is earning more and more time due to his play. He ran for a career-high 111 yards against Washington State and in the past two games, Martinez has run 19 times for 194 yards and a touchdown. Martinez has also had runs of 43 and 50 yards in the past two games, the longest by any OSU back this season. Deshaun Fenwick is still the starter, but with Trey Lowe out again, Martinez should see plenty of work. At this price, it will not take much to make value against a Colorado rush defense that is allowing 251.0 yards per game on the ground.
Other Top Running Backs:
- Kendre Miller, TCU ($5.9K DK/$9.1K FD) Coming off 100-yard/2 TD performance — always in play.
- Mohammed Ibrahim, MIN ($8.4K DK/$9.8K FD) PSU just gave up 500 rush yards to MICH. A top GPP play.
- Deuce Vaughn, KSU ($7.2K DK/$8.6K FD) Deuce is always in play as a home-run hitter.
- Israel Abanikanda, PIT ($8.0K DK/$9.0K FD) Coming off a 71 DKFP game against VT — enough said.
- Brad Roberts, AF ($7.0K DK/$8.8K FD) A favorite GPP play.
- Trevion Cooley, UL ($3.0K DK/$7.6K FD)
- Jam Griffin, ORST ($3.1K DK/$6.8K FD) DK-only value against historically one of the worst-run defenses in the nation.
CFB DFS Wide Receivers
Isaiah Winstead (ECU) vs. UCF ($7.4K DK/$8.8K FD)
Winstead is coming off a monster game against Memphis last week. He created most of ECU’s yards through the air with nine catches for 154 yards and the only receiving touchdown from Holton Ahlers. The ECU alpha receiver now has at least five receptions in every game this season and has posted at least 50 receiving yards in every game. He is also averaging 102.7 yards per game with a 21.6 DK fantasy point average. This should be another high-scoring game and expect Ahlers to look Winstead’s way early and often. Winstead is a top play tonight in all formats.
Quentin Johnston (TCU) vs. KSU ($7.0K DK/$9.0K FD)
After being held under 50 receiving yards through his first four games of the season, Johnston has exploded the past two weeks. He had his breakout 14-catch, 206-yard game against Kansas in Week 6 and caught eight passes for 180 yards against Oklahoma State last week. This is going to be a top NFL draft pick and Kansas State will have major issues containing Johnston and QB Max Duggan. Now that HC Sonny Dykes and OC Garrett Riley have unleashed this offense, all bets are off, and it is a “fade Johnston at your own risk” type of day.
Jared Wayne (PITT) @UL ($5.1K DK/$7.5K FD)
Wayne is the most explosive receiver in the Pitt receivers’ room, and he has the size and speed to create a major matchup problem for Louisville. He is the alpha and big-play receiver for this team and if Konata Mumpfield doesn’t play then Wayne becomes one of the top plays on the board. With 16 targets in his past two games, Wayne may even see more work after fellow receiver Jaden Bradley just hit the transfer portal. Love this play tonight.
Evan Stewart (TA&M) @SCAR ($4.1K DK/$6.3K FD)
Five-star freshman Stewart has been peppered with targets since Ainias Smith went down for the season. This includes a season-high eight receptions on 15 targets against Alabama in Week 6 and seven-plus targets in every game but one this season. Like Achane, Stewart does not have a huge ceiling, but the targets are there, and he is a solid cash play, especially at this $4.1K DraftKings salary. He has compiled an impressive freshman season with twenty-six catches for 303 yards and looks like a seasoned veteran so make sure Stewart finds his way into your lineups tonight.
Other Top Wide Receivers:
- Cameron Latu, BAMA ($3.7K DK/$6.0K FD) Coming off 6-90 game – a great value.
- Ryan O’Keefe, UCF ($7.3K DK/$8.1K FD) UCF/ECU is my favorite game stack — a high upside play.
- Javon Baker, UCF ($7.1K DK/$7.2K FD) UCF/ECU is my favorite game stack — a safer play.
- Tre’shaun Harrison, ORST ($6.8K DK/$7.1K FD) 28.5% target share — a great matchup.
- Phillip Brooks, KSU ($4.6K DK/$7.3K FD) Has become Adrian Martinez's go-to WR — GPP play.
- Moose Muhammed III, TAMU ($4.1K DK/$6.0K FD) 12 rec/183 yards last two games.
- Kobe Prentice, BAMA ($5.9K DK/$5.9K FD)
- Ryan Jones, ECU ($5.5K DK/$6.2K FD)
