College Football PrizePicks CFB Top Picks Week 9 Thursday
Cameron Ward, Washington State – OVER 19.5 Fantasy Score
We have a late-night Pac-12 matchup to cap off our Thursday night football fix, and Washington State has a real shot at upsetting Utah here. The Cougars' pass-heavy offense is led by Cameron Ward and we can bank on him throwing it a ton tonight. Ward has at least 32 pass attempts in all but one game this season and he has 40+ attempts in four of seven contests. The WSU offense usually goes with 4-5 receivers out wide, giving Ward plenty of options. He's thrown for at least 343 passing yards in three of the last four games and had 299 in another. Ward is also performing well at home, with 20+ fantasy points in all four home games this year.
Ward is looking much more comfortable running this pass-centric Washington State attack and he should have success against an inconsistent Utah defense. The Utes are allowing 296.8 passing yards per game against conference opponents this season. Expect Ward to go over this fantasy score, and you should consider the over on his passing yards number as well.
Jack Chambers, North Carolina State – OVER 45.5 Rush Yards
Chambers is now starting for NC State with Devin Leary out with an injury. In his first start last week, Chambers ran for 59 yards on a whopping 19 carries. Though all of those rush attempts weren’t designed runs for the QB, it’s still notable to see him running it so much. In his one-and-a-half games under center for NC State, Chambers has shown a tendency to take off and make plays with his legs when he’s under pressure or doesn’t see anyone open downfield. He also ran for 39 yards in his one half of play two games ago in relief of Leary. When Chambers was at Charleston Southern before transferring to the Wolfpack this year, he went over 45.5 rushing yards in eight of 14 games in the previous two seasons.
Another important factor here is that Virginia Tech hasn’t faced many dual-threat running quarterbacks this season yet. In fact, the Hokies have faced just one guy who was willing to run while the rest have been your typical pro-style QBs. That one opposing dual-threat was North Carolina QB Drake Maye, who ran for 73 yards and two touchdowns. Grab the over here with Jack Chambers.
