Josh Downs (North Carolina WR) – OVER 82.5 Receiving Yards
Josh Downs had an incredible season for North Carolina last year, totaling 101 receptions for 1,335 yards and eight touchdowns. He performed on a weekly basis as UNC's top offensive weapon and that should be the case again this year. Downs had at least 83 receiving yards to hit this over in eight of the first 11 games last season. He was Sam Howell's favorite target all year and should reprise that role despite the Tar Heels having a new quarterback. While QB Drake Maye is unproven, he'll likely be looking Downs' way early and often for easy completions. Downs should see even more targets because UNC's second-best receiver, Antoine Green, is out following a preseason injury. The only worry is whether or not the yards are there for Downs before he heads to the bench in a likely blowout win over Florida A&M. Let's bank on that happening because he should be tough to cover for any of A&M's corners.
Casey Thompson (Nebraska QB) – OVER 19.5 Fantasy Points
College football fans may remember how good Pittsburgh's offense was last year. QB Kenny Pickett turned into a first-round pick of the NFL Draft and WR Jordan Addison emerged as one of the best receivers in the country. The man behind the high-scoring Pitt offense? That would be offensive coordinator Mark Whipple, who's now the new OC at Nebraska. He now joins forces with Texas transfer QB Casey Thompson, who had some big games last year when healthy. Thompson has reportedly fully recovered from offseason thumb surgery and has the ceiling to drop 25-30 fantasy points at his best. He had at least 20 fantasy points in four of his eight games where he played the bulk of starting snaps at Texas while splitting time with Hudson Card.
Logan Bonner (Utah State QB) – UNDER 275.5 Pass Yards
Don’t get me wrong, Logan Bonner is a very good QB and capable of tossing 300+ yards in any given game. Plus, Utah State has a cake matchup at home against UConn and should win by multiple scores. However, there are a few factors going against him this weekend. First, Bonner is coming off a knee injury suffered in the bowl game last year and he missed all of spring camp. If Utah State has a big lead, we could see Bonner take a seat for some of the second half to keep him healthy ahead of next week’s showdown against Alabama. With that in mind, the Aggies have a talented backup QB in Wyoming transfer Levi Williams and he could get some run when Bonner possibly heads to the bench with a lead. Then there’s the status of Utah State’s wide receivers. The team lost its three top pass-catchers from last season in Deven Thompkins, Brandon Bowling, and Derek Wright. This could result in some growing pains in the opening game while Bonner establishes a rapport with the new WR corps. Finally, Bonner went over 275 passing yards in just seven of 14 games a year ago.
Johnny Ford (FAU RB) – UNDER 68.5 Rush Yards
This rushing total seems a bit high for a guy that isn't the lead running back on his own team. While Johnny Ford is a talented player, Larry McCammon is listed as the starting RB on the Florida Atlantic depth chart to begin the season. Ford is expected to be used more in a pass-catching role out of the backfield while McCammon will see more early-down rushing work. Even as FAU's lead back last year, Ford went over 68.5 rushing yards in just six of 11 games. Plus, this line has been trending down as it stood at 77.5 rushing yards just a day ago.
