CBB DFS Top Guards

Justice HillLSUUMKC860026.3
LSU has a bunch of new faces with the offseason coaching change, so it’s tough to tell which will be the top DFS options and how the rotation/production shakes out. At least we know Justice Hill will be heavily involved after he followed new head coach Matt McMahon over from Murray State. Hill was a dynamic scorer and playmaker last year and he should be running the point at LSU this season. The DFS floor should be safe for cash games – whether he’s scoring, passing, or filling up the stat sheet overall.
El EllisULBELLA830014.15
Ellis is priced way up like most of the Louisville players tonight, so people will likely stay away. Still, the Louisville guard makes for a high-upside GPP play and can be considered in cash with how much offensive usage he’s about to see this season. Ellis led the Cardinals in shot share (25.4%) and usage rate (24.3%) last year and it looks like that’s the case again. In the most recent exhibition, Ellis launched 20 shots with 15 free-throw attempts to rack up 28 points. Louisville has a ton of unproven talent overall, so it might be the Ellis show.
Foster LoyerDAVWRIGH700027.53
Loyer is back as the point guard and focal point of the Davidson offense. The former Michigan State transfer has found his way with Davidson and is now a top player in the A-10. He averaged 16.5 PPG last year and just scored 30 points in the season opener on Monday, which is possible again tonight in a higher-scoring matchup with Wright State. Loyer is taking on even more offensive responsibility and usage this season with Hyunjung Lee and Luka Brajkovic gone. Expect him to be popular in cash as a top overall play.
Trey CalvinWRIGHDAV660027.02
Calvin was a stat-stuffer for Wright State last year and he’s poised to take on an even bigger role this season. Grant Basile and Tanner Holden are gone, so Calvin will be the offensive catalyst at point guard with heavy shot volume and usage nightly. He was already putting up 25-30 DK or more on a regular basis at the end of last season. This matchup between Calvin and Foster Loyer will be a great one to watch tonight and we could see them going back-and-forth all game if you want to mini-stack with those two in cash.
Marcus Shaver Jr.BSUSDSU620023.91
Shaver returns as Boise State’s point guard after flirting with the NBA Draft process. He’s expected to take on more ball-handling duties running the offense for Boise with Abu Kigab and Emmanuel Akot gone now. Shaver has the talent to score 20+ real points and 30+ DK points with his increased role, and he’ll definitely improve upon his 13.3 PPG from last year. He should be popular in cash at a very affordable price point.

Also Consider:

  • Kadary Richmond – Seton Hall ($8800 DK) – GPP
  • Kruz Perrott-Hunt – Lipscomb ($7100 DK) – GPP

CBB DFS Value Guards

Zeke MayoSDSUBSU550018.28
Mayo is a breakout candidate this year and is expected to take on a bigger offensive role for South Dakota State with Baylor Scheierman gone. He was solid last year as a regular starter, but took a backseat to Scheierman and Douglas Wilson in the offense. Mayo and Alex Arians will now be the main scorers and playmakers for the Jackrabbits, and both are too cheap on this slate considering that increased role. On the road at Boise State is a tad tough, but the heavy usage will make Mayo a fine cash play. He had 13 points, seven rebounds, and two assists in Monday’s opener.
Chibuzo AgboBSUSDSU48003.46
Agbo barely played at Texas Tech last year, but he’ll have an immediate role for Boise State now. We should see him start and play big minutes on the wing with Abu Kigab and Emmanuel Akot gone. Agbo scored 14 points with a ton of ancillary stats in the exhibition game. He’s really cheap for the potential 5x value and can be considered in all formats.
Amari DavisWRIGHDAV440014.99
The Missouri transfer should play a much bigger role for Wright State after not doing much last season. He spent his first two college seasons at Green Bay and averaged 17.1 PPG in 2020-21. It remains to be seen what his role will be with Wright State, but this seems way too cheap for a guy that could score 15+ points with plenty of ancillary stats if he’s starting – especially in a higher-total matchup vs. Davidson
A.J. PlitzuweitSDULIPS32000
Plitzuweit was a wild card on Monday’s slate because he didn’t play at all last year after suffering a knee injury in February 2021. Plus, we didn’t know if he’d start or how much he’d do in a tough road matchup at Wisconsin. Well, Plitzuweit started for South Dakota in the opener and played 27 minutes with eight points, four boards, and an assist. That’s a good sign for his health and role on this squad. This is a guy who averaged 18.9 PPG two seasons ago as a high-usage player. He’s way too cheap at just over the DK min.
Emmanouil DimouUMKCLSU30000
The freshman could be starting at point guard for Kansas City tonight, which would make him an excellent value at the DK min price. He may not be UMKC’s top player or scorer, but the starting PG role will give him a solid floor even in a blowout loss at LSU. Dimou played on Greece’s U18 team and has plenty of high-level international experience, which should help him compete against power conference teams in general. At min price, he doesn't need to do much to return value anyway.

Also Consider:

  • Juston Betz – Bellarmine ($5800 DK) – GPP
  • Alex Arians – South Dakota St ($5700 DK) – Cash
  • Will Pruitt – Lipscomb ($5600 DK) – Cash
  • Connor Kochera – Davidson ($4600 DK) – Cash
  • RayQuawndis Mitchell – UMKC ($4300 DK) – GPP
  • Peter Suder – Bellarmine ($3000 DK) – GPP

KJ WilliamsLSUUMKC920033.92
Williams is priced higher than we’d like, but that likely won’t stop people from playing him in all formats. He followed his Murray State head coach over to LSU, like Justice Hill, and should be a focal point of the offense early on until the rotation and lineup shakes itself out. At Murray last year, Williams was a stud who was always a threat to post a 20-point double-double and 40+ DFS points. Maybe he hits speed bumps against tougher competition, but UMKC won’t slow him down tonight.
Ahsan AsadullahLIPSSDU760036.34
Asadullah might be the best player you’ve never heard of, at least for DFS purposes. The Lipscomb offense runs through the big man, who had a 31% shot share, 32% usage rate, and 40% assist rate last year. The sixth-year senior has been one of the highest-used post players in college basketball for a few years now and the Lipscomb attack will continue to focus on him. He filled up the stat sheet on a nightly basis, averaging 15.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. Expect more of the same for cash lineups tonight in a high-total matchup with South Dakota.
Sam MennengaDAVWRIGH640018.08
Like Foster Loyer above, Mennenga will step into a bigger role for Davidson this season with Hyunjung Lee and Luka Brajkovic gone. He had a double-double in Monday’s opener and could do the same here in a higher-total matchup with Wright State where the starters will all play big minutes. At his best, Mennenga can put up 15-20 points, double-digit rebounds and 30 DK or so as a great GPP or cash play on this slate.
KC NdefoSHUMONM620028.74
Remember Ndefo from Saint Peter’s? Well, he followed his head coach Shaheen Holloway to Seton Hall in the offseason and now we get him regularly on DFS slates. It’s tough to predict how the Pirates’ starting lineup or rotation will look, but Ndefo should play a key role in the frontcourt as one of the best defenders in the country who can do just enough on the offensive end. Maybe this price is a tad too rich, but Ndefo can fill up the stat sheet in multiple ways. He’ll also play bigger minutes while Alexis Yetna is sidelined.
Tyson DegenhartBSUSDSU590018.93
Degenhart showed flashes last year as a freshman and is expected to take on a bigger role for Boise State this season. He’ll step into a ton of minutes in the frontcourt with Abu Kigab, Emmanuel Akot, and Mladen Armus all departed. Degenhart led Boise in scoring in the exhibition game with 19 points, which is a great sign of things to come for tonight and moving forward in his expanded offensive role. He’s very affordable and is a solid cash option.

Also Consider:

  • Jae'Lyn Withers – Louisville ($8900 DK) – GPP

CBB DFS Value Forwards

Mwani WilkinsonLSUUMKC530012.82
Wilkinson is one of the lone holdovers from last year’s LSU team that went through a complete roster overhaul with the coaching change. Even with so many new faces, he should start in the frontcourt next to KJ Williams and do just enough in all stat categories to return value. New head coach Matt McMahon has talked glowingly of Wilkinson in preseason and some experts have suggested he could break out this season. It's worth a shot in GPPs, but tough to trust in cash until we see what his real role is.
Matt DentlingerSDSUBSU450011.2
Dentlinger started South Dakota State’s season opener and his 15 points led the team. He also added six rebounds and three blocks. The 6-foot-8, 240-pound senior will be taking on a bigger role in the frontcourt this year with Douglas Wilson gone. He’s also locked into more playing time at center if Luke Appel remains out tonight. Rostering a starter under 5k is always good, but there’s upside if Dentlinger continues to be one of South Dakota State’s top scorers.
Stephane IngoMSTAMER390022.02
It remains to be seen whether Ingo starts and how many minutes he’s out there for Marist. Still, there’s a ton of GPP upside here. The Maine transfer is a defense-minded big man who was an elite shot-blocker last year when healthy. He should provide just enough ancillary stats to return value and is a great value if starting.
Matt SchnerLIPSSDU30000
Schner is mispriced here at the minimum on DK. The Division III transfer will likely start for Lipscomb on the wing and his do-everything ability will give him a great DFS floor in this high-total matchup. Schner averaged 23.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game last year while shooting 39.4% from three-point range. Maybe there’s some growing pains with the move up to better competition, but Schner is too cheap for the potential 6x return or better.

Also Consider:

  • Patrick Gardner – Marist ($5700 DK) – GPP
  • Curt Hopf – Bellarmine ($5200 DK) – Cash
  • Matthew Mors – South Dakota State ($3300 DK) – GPP
